Not the point whatsoever. Tuanzebe is very highly rated. Due to our absolute injury crisis and huge fatigue in all our players why is he still getting 0 minutes

if you add up all the PL minutes given to liverpool's youngsters you won't get the number of minutes rashford has played.

Yes Rashford has played a lot blah blah. The lad is a top top talent still hasn't used the squad good enough IMO

i do get your point, i just don't think it's a very good one.

the short answer is that the kids are not actually as good as everyone thinks they are. i've already said that the gap between U23s and first team is bigger than ever; i've repeatedly pointed out that TFM made most of his appearances last year at RB, and that (in contrast to last year, when he missed 2/3of the season) valencia has played most of the matches this season.

most top teams do not have one senior player per position, with a kid as back-up, they have 2/3 senior players per position, and use the kids as an emergency. none of city, chelsea, or pool have had a single academy product play regularly this season; united have had 2, in rashford and lingard.

yet people overlook this just to have a dig at jose, as if TFM playing a few more minutes would somehow have saved the season.

FBs regularly play at CB - gabriel at arsenal, ivanovic, micah richards - and SAF used to do the opposite (remember smalling and jones at RB?). So presumably jose feels that an italian international FB, with c. 30 caps to his name, is a better bet than a 19 year old at CB.

How many top teams in the PL/Europe play 19 year old CBs?

I'm not talking about playing him regularly but in defensive crisis why not play him?

well, i can think of one good reason not to throw him in with half an hour to go in a PL game, and that's because he may not have trained regularly with blind as a partner....the rojo and bailly injuries have happened pretty quickly, blind + tuanzebe may be a combination that has barely featured even in training.

so rather than throw him in for a baptism of fire - and as the taller player he'd presumably have to mark llorente, which decent PL defenders have struggle to do - he went with the experienced player.

as i said, i don't recall people complaining that SAF playing jones and smalling at RB was showing a lack of faith in the youth defenders (and, as i recall, they were both pretty awful at RB). remember carrick at CB, at fulham?

jose has done some very poor things this season, and i do agree that he could have rested some players a bit more in some games (which may partly explain the rash of injuries now, i don't know), but throwing on darmian today really isn't one of them.
