Number 6 next season...

Simple question really, has Emre Can earned himself a place as starter even when Henderson is fit?
Especially when you consider Henderson's injury record, Lallana/Wijnaldum's importance and the links to a new centre midfielder...

I don't think he is a bad player, kneerash. I just think he should not be a starting CM in the pivot in your team. No shame in thinking that, a team like yours has the potential to go for the title I think his position probably needs strengthening behind LB & CB.

He scores goals, which is a good asset I will agree, yet his overall contribution is pretty non-existent.

Yesterday, the only Liverpool player who touched the ball less than him was Mingolet. The game before he also touched the ball 9th most out of anyone in the Liverpool team.

Liverpool keep the second most possession out of any team in the league (57%) and play the second most passes (581.1 per game).

Wijnaldum averages 44 passes per game, which is very low for a midfielder, especially one that keeps so much possession. Comparitively the two other key midfielders in your team have played more; Henderson (80 per game) & Can (49 per game).

Looking at other high possession teams, Arsenal and Man City, further comparsions of passes per game can be made:
Cazorla (70)
Xhaka (71)
Yaya (68)
Fernandinho (69)
Silva (61)

It is clear that he doesn't get involved enough. Yet if you guys believe different then fair enough, I hope Klopp can't see this either and your midfield can continue to be behind the other top teams.

How much do you watch Liverpool?

How long is a piece of string?

Your comment is often a losing one written by posters who don't have much else to contribute. You could watch every minute of every game and still not have a clue about football or have club bias cloud your judgement.

I think his passing stats being comparable to Can is the bit that sticks out for me.
Henderson plays deeper and therefore can make a lot of passes in less pressured scenarios.

I'd be interested to see Wijnaldum's stats for ball recoveries etc also

Can averaging 49 passes per game so not high either; with 2.1 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game.

Winjaldum has 1.3 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per game.

How do those compare with the rest of the league?

I'm curious as this season, we haven't had a problem dominating possession and winning the midfield battle. As well documented, we have issues with our concentration and defending. If Can/Wijnaldum are below par in terms of passing, where has the possession game come from?

No it was a genuine question. I don't feel that statistics or highlights give you any real idea how a player performs for their team.

Coutinho, Mane & Lallana are around the same.

Can has shown he is very versatile in midfield. First thing we need to do is sign him up because he will not be short of admirers at other CL clubs.

I'm not sure playing number 6 is his best position. He is more box to box for me and has provided a decent amount of goals and assists. I think he will only get better.

I think it is from Coutinho/Mane/Lallana/Firmino playing in such a fluid system (non play as front men) that they all get involved in the build up like crazy. Lallana 45 passes per game, Firmino 44, Coutinho 41. Which is more than compartive players in other possesion teams (Sterling, Sane, Mkhi, Martial etc)

You have answered your own point.

The reason our midfield doesn't pass as much is because the forwards pass more.

There is more rotation of position and movement therefore our midfield don't have to pass pass pass because the forwards are getting more involved in the passing than other teams forwards do.

Spectacular goal by the boy, no question. No.6 next season? No consistency. No question on that one either.
