Celta who?

They tend to play 4-2-3-1, though often switch to 4-3-3.
They like to press high and break fast.
They're weak at the back. If the fast break isn't on, they will often use possession as a means of defence.

They've beaten Barça three years in a row.
They knocked Madrid out of the Spanish cup this year.
They knocked Atlético out of it last year.
In that time, they've won at the Camp Nou, Bernabéu and Calderón.
They've decided each EL tie so far in the 2nd leg away from home.

They're inconsistent.
They choked in the Spanish cup semis this year and last.
They've got Iago Aspas.
You should beat them.

How did they beat the top Spanish teams?

Was it by going at them or was it by sitting back and hoping to catch them on the break.

It's possible though that Jose will be a bit more defensive than what La Liga's big three would be so hopefully we won't be caught on the break.

I could see Fellaini starting this game in quite an advaned position with runners round him so that if we do get pressed he's the out ball and he can flick it on and bring others into play. Not the way, long term, I want to see us play but maybe needs must?

What would you say is the best way to beat them AJ? Or should they really be more worried about us. Based on what you're saying we should be looking for goals in the first leg and a lead.

If we can't beat the team 10th in la liga then there is something seriously wrong.
Yeah they can be decent every now and then but so can every other bloody team on the odd day. We should be beating these lot. They are average

I'm talking about over two legs. The only team we haven't beaten out of them is Stoke. With Arsenal the only other we haven't played

As much as saying there's something seriously wrong with Atlético and Real Madrid, both of whom Celta have beaten over two legs.

Yes, you should be beating them, but it's still cup football.

Diafol (is that devil in Welsh, btw?), I'm no tactician, but fight fire with fire sounds like the most straightforward way to beat them, imo. Press them high, hit them fast, don't eff about at the back. Gino's suggestion of playing it out long to bypass their press sounds reasonable enough.

Sorry Diafol, it wasn't gino, it was you.

AJ.

Yes on both counts. Diafol is Welsh for Devil and I did also advocate (see what I did there?) the use of going a bit more direct!

You had me worried until:

"They've got Iago Aspas."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair to him, he has scored 25 goals in all comps this season.

17 in the league, one more than the much lauded Griezmann and with a mins to goals ratio of 125 compared to Griezmanns 176 mins

Even if it'd prove to be more effective I'd rather not see us use a "more direct" approach, if only because I cannot read another 10,000 fecking comments posted on our board by halfwit dippers about Jose's "hoofball United".
