Will UTD rest players or is it mind games?

The question is, are we to believe that Mourinho will rest players for his visit to Arsenal?

It has been widely reported that there is an injury crisis at UTD which Mourinho attributes fatigue (although many of those that injured players reportedly trained yesterday). However, I put it out there that the chances of Mourinho resting players for his trip to the Emirates largely depends on UTDs results in their Europa league tie with Celta Vigo.

IMO, Mourinho will only rest players if tonight's result is inconclusive i.e. a 2 - 2 or a 2 - 1 etc. With a result like that, there is still everything to play for. As it would stand for UTD, with games against Arsenal and Tottenham in the league, the Europa league would represent the most likely route to gain a champion's league position.

However, you can make a reasonable argument that if UTD win conclusively i.e. 0 - 4, then they could consider that the tie is practically over and then they could still gamble and play a strong team against Arsenal. In so doing they would double their possibilities of gaining a champion's league place via two competitions.

Or on the other hand, if they lose conclusively i.e. 4 - 0, they could reason that the tie is over and that their best chance of getting a top four position is by picking up points in the league and as a consequence they play a strong team at the Emirates.

One thing that you can guarantee from the UTD visit to the Emirates is that they will ultimately come to frustrate and won't be totally disappointed with getting a point from their visit.

A lot could depend on the City game. If City drop points which is unlikely it opens the door again.

Same with Liverpool although their game is too close to ours to have an impact on team selection

I suppose for England its better if we miss out on top 4 only if we win the europa league.

That is BS as Arsenal can still win a bigger trophy then Spurs have in decades lol.

do the mats

man u can win their remaining 4 pl matches 5-0 and still finish 5th

whereas if they concentrate on the europa league just draw at home to celta vigo and 1x big win or penalty lottery vs ajax in final and they are through straight into cl group stages whereas liverpool/man city whoever finishes 4th have a potential banaskin cl qualifier which if they were to lose wud play europa league football

Can you imagine Pep's City having to play a qualifier & getting beaten...

Well Crystal Palace are in form and I reckon they will win 1-2 today. Our problem is we just draw games so never make any progress but the europa league at least gives us a second chance. I think if we lose to Arsenal then the europa league is a must otherwise Mourinho is going to be sacked if Woodward is consistent.

Pep City qualified easily and LVG Man Utd did the season before. Its so fustrating seeing really bad teams get CL positions.
