Another Massive Weekend

It another massive weekend in our charge for a top 4 finish. We play Southampton in the early kickoff this Sunday, prior to Arsenal and United playing. A win for LFC would most definitely leave both rivals deflated going in to the later game. A slip up could give them hope.

I'm just hoping we can see off Southampton at Anfield and enjoy the rest of the weekend. I think if we get the three points on Sunday we are looking good for top 4.

Thoughts?

Liverpool have it in the bag now. It's as good as over for United in the league given the fixtures we have compared to City and yourselves. And we have one foot in a European final now too.

Actually be good if 5 English teams get into the CL really. Arsenal n Everton in Ropey cup.

Some season for the co-efficient because for once it would be the 7 best squads in the country in Europe.

No more West Ham getting slapped about by Romanian bricklayers.

Thing is now, all Liverpool fans are saying it isn't over until it's over and with there record against some of the sides in the bottom half of the table, these final few games are still tests for Liverpool, not just physically breaking these teams down, but mentally.

But on the other hand, United (and Arsenal) fans are saying its LIverpool's to use and that they should quite easily finish in the Top 4. Whilst all 3 clubs' supporters are correct, to an extent, there can only be one outcome. Liverpool top 4, or not.

I can see City winning all 4 games so it may even go down to GD on who comes 3rd or 4th.

4th place has to play a qualifier.

Nothing is a gimme at the minute. But I'm quietly confident while always being pessimistic (if that's possible).

The chances of City, United and Arsenal all going on a winning streak until the end of the season is highly unlikely due to their incosistency all season

Don't want to be greedy but I'd really like us to finish 3rd. Getting through the qualifying is much tougher than it used to be cause of the two routes. Would be a bit of a bummer to spend a whole season getting 4th only to be knocked out before the group stage.

I think the best perspective to look at it from a Liverpool point of view is that, how many more points do they need to guarantee a top 4 finish, regardless of what United and Arsenal do.

Right now, Liverpool need another 9 points to guarantee a top 4 finish, so that's winning all of their remaining games. United can get a maximum of 77 points, if Liverpool win all 3 games, they will get to 78 points and will finish above United. Arsenal can only reach 75 points whereas City can get to 78 points maximum.

However, both United and Arsenal cannot reach 77 and 75 points respectively because they play each other this weekend and both can't win. I think Liverpool need another 6 points and City need 9 points. 77 points should be (more than) enough for the top 4 because that means United winning all of their games and bettering Liverpool's GD by 4 and City's GD by 3. I can't see that happening.

If we get 3rd I will be amazed and i would think that would be a great finish for a team who made profit in the last transfer window.

7 points guarantees us 4th so long as United don't beat Arsenal this weekend so a draw could be a decent result.

Draw = United 75 max Arsenal 73
Arsenal win = United 74 Arsenal 75

There is a scenario, though unlikely, where we could end up playing in a playoff against City to see who gets third and fourth. But it would require us to finish level on points, goal difference and goals scored. They're all pretty close at the moment but still unlikely. Imagine though.

Don't think Liverpools result will bother United as much. With Liverpool pretty much nailed on for third it's the City result they will be most interested in. If City drop points it will be interesting to see what team United will put out on Sunday considering we have a great chance of reaching Eurpoa Lge final on the Thursday after.

Wouldn't Liverpool say are nailed on for 3rd. City are 4 points behind them with a game in hand and easy looking fixtures. 3 at home I think.

I do reckon Liverpool will win easily Sunday though. Saints have given up the ghost ever since Zlatan buried them.
