Canelo vs Chavez Jr Fight Thread!!!

Mexico has built its legacy in boxing by delivering the most fiercest fighters. From Salavador Sanchez and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr to the more recent Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales. When Mexicans step into the ring, blood and guts are put on the line for their pride and the fans. On May 6, the biggest PPV star in the sport Canelo Alvarez takes on the son of a Mexican icon, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, in a battle for the number one spot in Mexican boxing.

The fight will take place at a catch-weight of 164.5lbs and from what I've seen, Chavez Jr looks set to make the weight. Canelo will make the weight with ease and we will see a fresher and improved version. Stylistically both men are traditional boxer punchers and neither will utilise excessive movement which means we are promised some entertaining exchanges. Both can take a punch but Canelo will have the edge in boxing ability and speed. If Chavez Jr has cut the weight without any real issues, this will be a intriguing match up. His come forward style and size will cause problems for Canelo. If Chavez Jr doesn't recover from the weight cut, Canelo will have a field day against the slower and hittable fighter. I can see Canelo working the body early and moving more than we have seen. Chavez Jr will plough forward but a few big shots from Canelo will make him reconsider. Canelo's work rate isn't his strongest trait and Chavez will be able to win a few of the earlier rounds through punch volume but the body work from Canelo will pay off during the mid rounds. Canelo should start timing Chavez by round 6 and I think he will drop him a few times on his way to a 10th round stoppage.
