The reason is we have none out of contract so it means another club would have to buy out their contracts. There aren't that many clubs that stupid.
Given a free hand who do you think GR should dump, snog or marry? I have to admit I don't like the sound of some of GR's comments. If could be Tony Pulis or Billy Davies (except it wasn't in the third person) talking.
First-team squad players under contract beyond the summer of 2017: Scott Carson, Cyrus Christie, Craig Forsyth, Craig Bryson, Jason Shackell, Richard Keogh, Johnny Russell, Ikechi Anya, Chris Martin, Tom Ince, Darren Bent, Chris Baird, Bradley Johnson, Alex Pearce, Jacob Butterfield, Will Hughes, Abdoul Camara, Kelle Roos, Nick Blackman, Matej Vydra, Andreas Weimann, Max Lowe, Jamie Hanson, David Nugent, Marcus Olsson, George Thorne, Jonathan Mitchell.
Personally I would like to the back of Shackell, Bent, Butterfiled, Camara. Vydra. Blackman, Hanson and Weimann.
Others we need to consider replacing Christie, Bryson, Thorne (because of injury) and Baird because of age.
If we received a large fee for Ince I wouldn't be too disappointed as he faded towards the end of the season.
I am certain that others will disagree with me (and by definition be wrong).
Still here, why?

Bent certainly does NOT have fast-twitch muscle fibres.. The frigging QE2 turns faster!

Baz, I very much doubt that you could even get close to Bent. I am a qualified athletics coach and believe me top athletes are another species. Darren Bent also has high upper body strength, as did Conor Sammon, yet neither can hold the ball. That is a skill. That's why we need skilful players not athletes.

Bent is capable of doing it but it's not his style. He likes to wander offside a lot and occasionally poach a goal.
Samon should never have been a footballer end of.
Again, put simply for you, how would your team of 11 Will Hughes do? All the skill in the world....

And I'm amazed, as a 'qualified athletics coach' you think Bent could have had a track and field career!

Baz that is your suggestion of 11 Will Hughes, not mine. As I have said and pointed out with examples, skill and athletic physical attributes are not mutually exclusive.
It should also be recognised that the runners of the team should not be heavily muscled. Muscle is heavy and requires a lot of oxygen. That is why you don't have the big men chase and press the opposition. They would soon be shattered. The lightweights like Bryson and Hughes need to do that. As I have pointed out before, that doesn't mean they get shrugged off the ball as in the case of Kante. Wins 80% of his tackles. Again it is skill that is the key factor.

I made the suggestion and posed the question to prove my point! The fact you can't answer it says it all.
Good night.

Can't remember many athletes in Fergusons teams. Cantona, Scholskar, Scholes, Giggs, Beckam, Sherringham etc etc etc.

.. and we can afford those sorts of players at one extreme end of the footballing spectrum! Most of them part of the treble winning side.
I give up FFS!

Kante has the ability not to get shrugged off the ball easily. Messi is the same, he is astonishing how he can withstand the attentions of defenders. Neither of them are much good aerially. You can't have everything.
We have too many players who are too easily pushed off the ball. Let's call it that rather than "lightweight" then maybe we might agree. For his size Hughes is pretty good, rubbish in the air obviously.
I don't think we are physically robust enough in that we are dispossessed relatively easily and don't often win the ball like, say, a Kante does. Kante is strong without being tall or heavy. We have some players of similar build who would win a hundredth of the tackles that Kante wins. This is what Rowett mean by power and athleticism. Some player seem to have opponents bouncing off them when they run with the ball. Hazard and Messi are like that. We have players who, when defenders give them a bit of a shove, can't withstand it or simply fall over hoping for a foul. We need to be stronger all over the pitch.

Now here is an odd thing. I talk to Leeds, Hull and Wednesday supporters up here in the wilds of Sth Yorks and they all say the same about their players being too lightweight and knocked off the ball too easily. A Hull supporter I was talking with on Saturday was saying he was amazed how aggressive Will Hughes was. Maybe it is our wish to see us win every challenge that makes us hypercritical when we don't.
