James Henry in talks with Millwall

price and saville could play regularly at championship level. price in particular has shown that with a good team around him, he looks good at what he does. the problem is that what he does is only 50% of what a promotion chasing CM should be doing.

i'd hope we could push for a fee of £500k-1m for price. and around half that for saville. plus a decent sell on clause just in case either player finally translates potential into consistent performances.

I doubt price is on £10k a week. saville probably on a higher wage. if between them they earn £20k pw then so long as we sell them in the summer we should be better off. a little bit like only sacking a manager when you have someone better lined up, I don't see the point in letting price go for free until we have brought in more and better midfielders because if we did have to have him on the bench at the start of next season it wouldn't be a major problem.

You'll never make a business man. Paying them a few more weeks at £10k, I think probably less, then selling them for a few hundred thousand sounds like a profit to me

i've explained to wolfie the reasoning behind this previously.
it obviously didn't sink in.
not much does.

You're assuming that we will be able to sell them a "few weeks" into July, but there's no guarantee of that. I'd be very surprised if anyone came in for either Price or Saville, given that they are not 'world beaters'. They are both mediocre players that may well end up in League 1. It'll be interesting to know what value the club have placed on both of them.

So unless we sell them during the summer transfer window, we're stuck with them (and their wages) until the January window. Plus, if they're not playing regularly under whoever is the head coach next season, their value will drop but their wages will not.

I would have preferred to have let them both go when their contracts run out at the end of June, especially as I doubt we'll get much for either of them.

By the way, seeing that we didn't pay a penny for Price and Saville only cost us 1m, I think we've had our money's worth from both of them.

If Lambert remains then we won't be trying to sell saville at all

Mark Davies released by Bolton. A player who never made full use of his undoubted ability,.was a regular for Bolton for a few years but hadn't played since getting a cruciate injury early in the season

davies (a bit like williamson) clearly had more ability than a lot of our squad but that's meaningless if you can't get fit and stay fit. if the talk at the time was accurate, he wanted to make demands at wolves based on how good he might be rather than working back to full fitness and proving his worth in the starting XI. a shame for us and him but not a player i'll ever look back on and think 'what might have been...'

a shame he picked up yet another nasty injury, but he did seem to make a reasonably good career at Bolton - perhaps he matured and settled down a bit. won't forget the number of times he scored against us tho or that he was a cheating little $h!t either

Davies was quite brilliant for our youth team and showed promise in his early first team games but he was blessed with no small amount of arrogance and plenty of injury problems. I think both those things contributed to him not having the career that he looked capable of as a teenager

Also had ability as opposed to just hard graft, that seldom fits the wolves model.
