I was quite surprised to realise this was ten years ago

So many stunning things when you read that article as to how football has changed in ten years:
"While Chelsea could match such financial clout (17m + 15m) if they desired, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool and Arsenal can match such spending power."
35m is nothing these days, really shows how out of control the spending is these days.
Here's to you David Gill, getting business done quickly and efficiently!

Ando on the whole flopped, if someone has a couple of good season from 6 or so, they've flopped.
But his good seasons helped us achieve great things.
Also let's be honest, he did benefit from playing with Scholes in his early 30's, a young carrick etc.

Back then it was a lot of money. I remember how much hype these guys got and many bought it because of their exotic names

yes, the exocitism of the name "anderson" must have been quite a shock to the insular society of 2007 britain...no wonder the sheep swallowed the hype uncritically

fans can never quite seem to work it out, half the time they're saying english players are rubbish/overhyped/overpriced, the other half they're saying that if smith/jones were called smithinho/jonesinho we'd all be raving about them.

Nearly all English players are overhyped and overated. There fixed it for you.

Anderson makes a top 5 worst value for signings of all time at this club.
Nani to be fair contributed a hell of a lot more than he Ando did.
Hargreaves was also a disaster. And Tevez joined City.
Great summer eh?

Not signing tevez was a crazy decision

although he wasn't worth it in the end, Tevez's owner did have an agreement with Fergie on a transfer fee, which Fergie conveniently ignored.

Despite how it all panned out, I remember being genuinely excited that summer. I thought it was great business at the time and i was already confident about our chances that season because we had finished the previous season much more strongly than anyone expected.
