Great Win but focus now on Summer

What a great win yesterday. The lads can be proud of finishing in the top 4 yesterday under great pressure from the chasing pack over the last few weeks. Our focus now has to be on getting through the CL qualifiers and making sure we get our summer transfer business done early.

We've been linked with VVD and Harry Maguire lately. But I've seen a lot of snobbery from United and even Spurs fans who have said if we continue to buy off these sorts of teams, then well never challenge for the league. While I like seeing a 'marquee' signing as much as the next guy, I'm also smart enough to see it doesn't always pay off. Ibra, Pogba, Martial, Mikhi are all prime examples of this. They offered no title challenge for United despite being considered top signings and costing a small fortune in transfer fees and wages.

I've said it many times before and Ill say it again - If Klopp can sign players who turn out to be at the same level as Matip, Mane and Gini, I don't care if they come from Barcelona or Bournemouth. I'm happy for LFC to quietly go about their business as long as we can add more qualiy to our overall squad and address some weaknesses in key areas I don't care who we get them from.

I'm sorry but you have tried this approach for decades now, it's time for Liverpool to find somebody who will invest big.

Sometimes you need to buy ready made world class players, you saw how RVP totally changed United when he signwe.

Stop shopping at Poundland, if Liverpool were to buy 3 world class players they would challenge for the league no problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well you could make a case for saying the same for Arsenal being a couple of top players short of challenging for the title. However, they've signed Sanchez and Ozil and haven't done a thing. So signing top players is a myth IMO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's because Wenger never added quality to quality. He'd wait until a talented group of players left the club because they grew tired of never winning anything and then he replaced them with other quality players. He never added to his collection of stars, he just replaced them.

It depends what you define as world class, I've heard pundits say there are only 5/6 world class players in the world (maybe Gary Nev)

I define world class as being somebody who can perform at the highest level and against the best in the world. This broadens the scope of who you can bring in.

Now you are in the champions league you can probably lure players of the same caliber as Sanchez and Mkhitaryan.

Maybe not a Griezmann just yet.

If you don't think you can compete with those type of players then you may as well give up now. Klopp has never won loads of trophies with his philosophy, by swilling his pride and investing big I believe he is good enough to win you some titles.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We can compete but a player that is already at the highest level against the best in the world is probably a player in the CL and excelling at their club.

So, if we take out the clubs bigger than Liverpool then we're probably looking at the likes of Reus, PEA, Mbappe, Oblak - those types of players. They are hugely in demand. Most clubs would throw their hat into the ring for them and Liverpool do not have the financial firepower to match Utd, City or Chelsea.

Even the likes of Isco who is in and out of the RM team would attract huge attention.

What your talking about requires a sugar daddy. Huge investment.

Until that happens then Liverpool need to look at the potential of players. People like Suarez who hadn't played in a major European league before. Or a Torres who had never been prolific but had the tools to be so.

Or we look to players who have the potential to play at a higher level than they currently do in the same way Spurs have done with Alli or Dembele or Eriksson.

KennysHeroes (U1935) has filtered me for some reason.

Can someone post on his "Great Win but focus now on Summer" article for me and ask him why? ( I can't recall speaking with him before, but then again I forget lot's of stuff )

Sorry Grizzly I must have done it accidentally. I've never filtered anyone on here purposely. I just checked and I had filtered two people. Weird.

Both unfiltered now anyway.

Liverpool have never really signed big name players though have we?
It's not our way traditionally, and seeing as Klopp has a reputation for making stars out of players, I doubt that's going to change anytime soon. Personally I am happy with that approach.

Has his reputation came about as a result of not really having big budgets at the clubs that he's managed? Either way it will be interesting to see what he does, if the owners come good on their promise of a huge kitty this summer.

I agree with Can Solo in that we should be looking at players bot with potential and ones preforming well in other leagues that just need to have a gamble taken on them e.g. Suarez, Torres.

Either way... An exciting few weeks ahead for the fans and everyone associated with the club.

I just don't think anybody has a really strong chance of achieving much without signing a few stars every now and then, unless the planets align like they did for Leicester.

Look at it this way, we have some amazing coaches in the league now and they all have money to burn. I just don't see Liverpool competing for the league against rest without spending.

You could flop in the league after spending over 100mill like United did, but a class manager will get it right at some point.

I disagree. Buying stars only appeases fans and sells shirts. I'm happy with signing good players with the potential to be coached into stars.
