Gael Clichy

Gael Clichy has been released by Man City and so is now available on a free transfer. Could he be at least a temporary solution to the left back problem? Ideally we will get someone younger who could play there for many years but surely we could do worse than get a 31-year-old with vast PL experience on a free transfer. It would be better than playing Milner there again anyway. Thoughts?

We need to aim higher. Cast offs and bargain bucket purchases won't keep us in the top four or challenging for trophies. I hope the owners show more ambition than the last time we entered the CL. Quality not quantity please.

We spent £107m that window, including Lallana, Lovren and Can who have worked for us and Balotelli and Markovic who were expensive signings.

I know you hate all things American and dislike our owners but blame Rodgers for that window, not the owners.

So he'll want likely a 100k so over 230k a week on milner and clichy? no thanks

I wouldn't necessarily be against this. Usually we speculate from points of no knowledge. By this I mean, for instance, Klopp might have promised Milner he would be LB for a season only etc.

So many possibilities. Signing someone like Sessegnon and Clichy with Milner also available just in case they are both sheet would make sense to me.

Having Sessegnon is useless right now though. Liverpool need a seasoned professional at LB, which at least Clichy is. Wouldn't be the first option, but if there was nobody else available, then I'd consider it.

Never really rated Clichy in his prime at Arsenal. Wouldn't take him now for sure.

Clichy is the worst left back among the top teams. Big no.

Not for me. The club has got to be aiming higher.

Apparently we aren't interested in Robertson, frankly there aren't many left backs who are good enough, available or would be interested in a move to Liverpool.

That you know of? we have scouts around the world, or atleast i hope we do. This is one of the few times im confident in our manager getting the right transfers so im not so too worried, its all fun speculating still though.

But all i can say is Klopps signings so far have all been spot on Karius maybe having the worse season out of them and hes a young GK so im sure he knows what positions he wants additions and has a list of players he'd take in them.

I expect him to have a LB lined up for sure though, one that will be a starter.

We also sold Suarez and on the season we returned to the CL what world class player did we bring in to replace him? None, just an assortment of prospects and players (like Lovren for example) who were known to have flaws that needed to be worked on. Lallana who has been the best of the bunch had to make a huge step up in class in one season, another risk.

What you fluffy fan boys of FSG overlook is that our competitors don't have the same outlook on player purchases. They will spend 50m plus on players who will be up to the task straight away. They have the ambition and the financial muscle to get the job done.

Thats the sort of ownership I want to see at our club. FSG have done a reasonable job on restoring our fortune but they are never going to be able to complete with the other top club owners.

I don't hate FSG its just that clearly they are never going to be able to take the club to where it deserves to be. It's a as simple as that really.
