Disappointed With Monk

12 months ago GM accepted a 12 month contract. Now he clears off and asks that a twelve month extension not be triggered by Leeds.

After being sacked by Swansea GM was in the football wilderness out of work and his reputation in tatters. How desperate was GM at this point? Well he was prepared to come and work for Cellino.

So how does he thank Leeds for giving him another chance? He walks out on them. Leeds are kind enough not to extend contract which means his next employer won't need to pay compensation for his services.

You would think that he would be embarrassed about the woeful failure of blowing a play off place and be thankful that he wasn't sacked and be pleased to try and make amends next season.

Batty ..... I don't want to blame GM ......... but he's a studious guy ...... he doesn't strike me as a guy who jumps at anything without giving it careful consideration.

He likes a "project" - his words. Therefore projects involve plans.

I suspect, strongly suspect, he's had a move away from ER lined up for sometime. The timing of his "resignation" could've been far better and not left the club and fans he says he really admires, in the position they find themselves right now.

The guy knew what he was doing ......... and will know the owner will cop the blame in some eyes, regardless .........

Imagine being like Watford were in this league........ Oh wait a minute

The bottom line for me, having read lots if accounts, particularly the one from WACCOE, is that Monk has turned out to be a koont of the highest order.
Good riddance to the fooker and well played to AR in smoking him out.

After the amounts we have had to get rid of under preforming managers and players I am disappointed we didn't seek compensation

He was out of contract, why would there be any compensation

Contractual right to extend

As JDH said, Monk's agent asked the club/AR to not exercise the 12 month extension clause (that was contractually binding). By doing so, the club waived their right to compensation. Clean break. No fuss.

The more you look at that, it suggests that the theory doing the rounds that AR was smoking Monk out holds water. Otherwise, why give up compo? To me at least,
it feels like AR was not as convinced by Monk as others.

Batty ...... I think the same....... I think, like many of us, that AR was underwhelmed by the end of season implosion. Why give him a 3 year deal - why not invoke the 12 month extension to see if he could back up last season in the next one? why saddle yourself with a potential large compo bill if end of season becomes the new season?

I've said in another thread .... there is a logic to only giving the 12 month extension. Clearly GM and another club see things differently ......

I don't think this will happen, but, what if after all the vacancies at other clubs are filled, Monk is on the outside looking in - no job. How ballistic would he
go after his own agent? (I do think this is a classic
case of an agent turning a client's head).

GM doesn't strike me as the type to take a dump without checking for toilet roll first. He's careful and considered.

He'll have something else lined up before tendering his resignation - wouldn't be surprised if he (and his agent) are up Teeside way right now - discussing contracts and transfer targets ..........

The rolling contract had to be agreed by both sides.

Or else it would have been simply a two year deal.

Everything points to Middlesbrough, VOF.
Bookies have Pearson as favourite. Not sure
anyone can argue that Monk is the better of
those two.
