Under no circumstances is this an "outstanding season" for Mourinho or Man Utd. If the Europa League didn't now provide CL football to the winner it would have been an average season at best.
Even with the Europa now providing CL football to the winner there's no getting away from the fact that Utd finished a poor 6th in the League after spending huge amounts of money including buying the most expensive player ever last summer.
Just to further put things in perspective Mourinho himself has previously said: "I don't want to win the Europa League. It would be a big disappointment for me. I don't want my players to feel the Europa League is our competition."

Jose has had a good season winning 2 trophies and getting CL football. I'm pretty sure all the other top 4 teams would've rather have been in their position.

It should be taken individually, Wigan won the FA Cup in 2013 and obviously you wouldn't say you'd rather have their season than Tottenham's this season. You have to say Mourinho's had a pretty successful season now he's won EL, imo, getting them into the CL. But swear to god anyone using the Community Shield as leverage deserves a ban

See i'd hate to have had your season, yeh you played some good stuff but you folded tameley in about 5 competitions and blew it again when you've got nothing to show for your good stuff again

In terms of progression he's had an awful season, but in terms of trophies he's had a great season.
Those are the two factor's that should be looked at individually, look at 2012 with us for example, in terms of trophies it was our best season ever but we went so far backwards that season in the team evolution.

So you think we had a better season in 2008? You'd have preferred that one? I'm sure you can't remember how we played all year or the stories that unfolded during the year but you're saying it's all irrelevant. There's a league cup at the end of it and so you'd have preferred that season to this, if you were a Spurs fan?

There's nothing wrong in saying that we're delighted in winning two trophies this season at the same time as saying we expect a better league performance next term.
The football wasn't great at times this season, we all know that, but at the start of next year we'll all start on zero points and try again.
Apart from Chelsea I bet no other teams wouldn't swap their season with us if they are being honest. Maybe Spurs, as they have been fantastic to watch and are used to not winning things, but the Liverpool fans I know are concerned about their inability to combine good play with trophies. Some are even questioning Klopp's mentality and comparing him with the dogmatic Wenger.

Point taken but right now as a Liverpool fan I'd rather just make top 4 whether that's by fourth place or Ropey league win than win a cup tbh. I guess the preference also depends on a particular club's situation.
Not bragging but I've seen cup wins. We have 3 Ropey league wins ourselves. However, we have been poor in the league for ages and only been in the CL twice in what? 7 years?
A cup would be good of course but right now I'd rather do well in the league if I had the choice. Try and challenge the leaders. Main target for me this coming season is to maintain Champions League club status. Get top 4 again, confirm we are here to stay and the engine might pick up some torque.

'Outstanding season' is an oversell I agree, but this season has been a success for United & Mourinho personally.
It might sound like preferential treatment, but Mourinho has earned the right to be judged on his second season at a new club. That's where everything clicks for his teams, and thus where his value lies. And I'd argue he's accomplished more this season than he did with Inter (08/09), Real (10/11) or us (13/14)..... all forgettable first seasons with each respective team. United feel like a club regaining an identity, he's given them much greater balance, the fans are back on side after running out Moyes & LVG, the only negative looking in from the outside is he still looks miserable as sin - he looks like he's bored of football.
If United win the league next year, they've got what they paid for by bringing him in.
