Squad size and registration

Now that transfer silly season has arrived, I thought people might be interested in a quick summary of where we would be at with player registration if nothing was to change before the start of next season.

If anyone spots any omissions or mistakes, please post below and I'll update the article.

Non-homegrown

DDG
Romero
Valencia
Bailly
Rojo
Blind
Darmian
Herrera
Fellaini
Mkhi
Mata
Martial
Ibra

(13/17)

Homegrown

Johnstone
Jones
Smalling
Young
Shaw
Carrick
Pogba
Rooney
Lingard

(Total 22/25)

Youngsters requiring new registration

Harrop
A Pereira
Wilson

(All homegrown. Of the above, I expect only A Pereira to be registered.)

Not requiring registration next season

J Pereira
TFM
Tuanzebe
CBJ
Riley
Mitchell
McTominay
Willock
Rashford

I have left Varela and Januzaj out because I cannot see how they could possibly feature for us next season.

The long and short of the above is that *if* Pereira is registered, we can sign and register two more players - homegrown or otherwise - before accounting for any outgoings.

If *any* two players leave, we would be able to register four more players - again, homegrown or otherwise - before we hit the cap.

With at least Tuanzebe, TFM, Pereira and Rashford coming through, we have plenty of homegrown talent to fill the squad berths of Carrick, Rooney, Young, etc. in the next few years.

There is a sentimental part of me which will actually be very sad to see him leave.

I don't really do sentimentality. And managers certainly shouldn't. SAF was victim to this in his last years with Giggs and Scholes. He just couldn't let them go.

Since Jose came in, the handling of Rooney has been really good, finally someone that didn't still think he 'had it' and was willing to put him on the bench. Fair play for Rooneys attitude when he has had games though too.

Running low on home grown, especially since people are citing 3/4 of the 8 leaving.

Don't think Pogba is classed as homegrown. Think he was a few months short of qualifying.

I think we're good on homegrown players, provided Jose sticks with Rashford, TFM and Tuanzebe.

If they stay, and at this stage I'd guess both have a very good chance, both Pereiras will also count as homegrown in due course.

If you have a manager that likes working with a relatively small squad (like Jose), the key is how many of the seventeen non-homegrown spots you have filled. And we have plenty of room to spare there.

Amid Manchester United's interest in Paul Pogba, one of the most asked questions relating to the France international this summer is whether he would count as a home-grown player.

The answer is no. The Premier League ruling on the home-grown quota states:
"A home-grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21)."
Fifa approved Pogba 's move to United from Le Havre on October 7 2009 after a judge of the players’ status committee dismissed Le the French club's complaint complaint against The Reds. Le Havre claimed they had agreed to enter into a contract with the 16-year-old midfielder at the start of the 2009-10 season and United illegally poached Pogba.
