The summer break is, without doubt, the most important part of the football season for supporters.
What's that you say Ivan!?! Are you crazy?!?!?
Well yes, that's why I post here, but that's beside the point. The thing with the summer break is that it gives players and fans alike a chance to recharge the batteries and wash off the disappointments of the previous season and begin to refuel that optimism, hopeless or otherwise, that drives your average fan forward.
And nothing makes you optimistic like seeing all the dross that played for you the season before leave en masse.
United have so far confirmed the departures of Murray (to Hibs), Dillon, Dixon, Zwick, van der Struick, Andreu, Nichols and Mikkelsen. More will undoubtedly follow.
So what if that leaves us with only 6 players for the new season? We're clearing the decks!
I'm already starting to look forward to seeing what players we are going to sign - and if I may be so bold to suggest something to McKinnon, it's that he signs players with a bit of pace for a change!
No signing news so far this week but hopefully that will change in the coming weeks.
United have confirmed a non-playing signing, and that's the return of silver-kisser Christian Dailly in a part-time coaching role. Christian will not be taking a wage for his work at Tannadice and I'm sure we all greatly appreciate that given our circumstances. Hopefully it works out well for both parties, and I'm sure Christian can certainly help with the physical preparation for games.

I realise he's been a bit pants recently and is probably on a decent wage but I'm still sad to see Dillon go. Been at the club a decade and helped lift the Scottish Cup, even playing out of position.
Just ignore the three cup finals he failed to win in, the relegation and failure to get promotion.
Other than that, it's been good times with Dillo.
