Fack the police

used be a track i liked growing up in america and also a mentality i had as a youngster

I've just seen the CCTV footage of the policeman confronting and killing the cowards who attacked London last weekend

I know its their job but u have to have some nuts to confront someone you think is wearing a suicide vest and could potentially explode any second killing you and folk around you

Anyways respect to the police for the job they do protecting the public from these animals and alike

At the end of the day it's just 'a job' as such. The days when it was a career/profession are in the past. All they have to do is 'their job' and no more given the complaint orientated regime in place these days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I fundamentally disagree with that. I know a couple of policemen in the Met and my father in law is a retired officer, with each of them they strongly believe in the role of the police in society and are motivated/proud of the job they do.

Both lads I know are extremely intelligent, went to top notch universities, could have any career they wanted and could command excellent salaries for a much easier life. Neither want that though.

It's a vocation IMO, not just a job. It's a bit like teaching to a certain extent, the rewards are definitely not worth the hassle of the job and you're required to handle situations others would struggle with but they do it because they believe in the profession.

Saying it's just a job completely under-values the individuals.

How did hthat footage get made public? Someone must be in trouble for that, I've mates in the Irish Police and the Irish Amy and both said that a major breach of intelligence.

Nothing to do with intelligence. In the video I watched there's a guy sitting in an office with his CCTV showing on the PC.

I'm not disputing the position of the police in society but people's perceptions of the police have changed over the years-much of it media driven and the bad publicity and hype attached. A great deal of the 'bad press' has been unwarranted but, unfortunately, 'mud sticks'. Many in the service are unhappy with the current conditions, would rather be elsewhere and see it as a 'job' and not, as you state, a vocation.

Reality street. I therefore disagree with what you have to say.

Fair enough. I wouldn't disagree that there is major discontent within the force. There's also major discontent with teachers and nurses and doctors. But still people are attracted to those professions.

Why? Any rational view would see that the majority of those roles are overworked, underpaid and in institutions which are dangerously underfunded. But still people go and do them.

If that's not doing it for the love of the profession then I don't know what is.

There are less armed officers by far and that is a fact. When you have a high ranking policeman asking

"Home Secretary - how do you sleep at night?"

You have to ask some questions.

If you are not rich enough that you have to use public services and you vote tory you're a fvcking idiot in my opinion.

If you want to avoid public services commuting into London you would need to be rich enough for a helicopter though

The police is a beast that has many faces, just like religion too. People talk about organisations and entities but in the end it's all about the people. A good person makes a good cop and vice versa.

If you come across a bad cop, it creates a bad impression, in which case 'fack the police' is right. If you come across a good cop it leaves you with a glowing opinion.

You're experiences and opinions depend on this.
