Election Fallout - More Qs than As

I was going to post on one of the threads but I realised I've got too many points to make so might as well do an OP. Sorry.

So here's my take on the extraordinary events of last night.

Scotland

The SNP absolutely got a bloody nose last night. To lose 21 seats is a blow no matter what way you look at it and they lost a number of high profile parliamentarians. I personally think it's a big blow to politics as a whole that Angus Robertson hasn't been returned. I'm sure however many people will be relieved that Salmond will no longer be on their tv screens.

The fact is however that the SNP have still won this election in Scotland. That's not putting a rosy picture on things, that's a hard fact.

I'm loathe to mention independence - I had to turn off BBC Scotland last night as that's all they talked about and it does my box in - but as the party with the majority of seats, that fulfils the SNP criteria for a 'triple lock' on securing a mandate for another referendum. However I was pleased this morning to hear a number of SNP individuals say that the party will reflect on this result before deciding on how to move forward. It should go on the back burner imo. It is not however "stone dead" as Ruth Davidson suggested this morning.

The Scottish Tories made massive gains and I'm not surprised, although I won't pretend I'm not aghast at it. Curly (with understandable reason) claimed that the SNP are a one-issue pressure group - nobody encapsulates that description more than the Scottish Tories. Independence, independence, independence. That's all they had and it delivered for them. I just hope that those in Scotland who voted Tory looked at more than the independence question and are content with the policies they have voted for.

Scottish Labour also made headway but I found it laughable that folk were on the TV trying to credit Kezia Dugdale for this. This turnaround is despite her, not because of her. People were (surely) voting for Corbyn and his policies, most of which appeal to the mainly left of centre electorate in Scotland. If it weren't for Dugdale and her SLab cronies I might have voted Labour too. Kez remains part of the problem for Labour.

UK as a whole

If the SNP have got a bloody nose then the Tories have got a broken nose, two black eyes, a cauliflower ear and a burst lip.

Theresa May's position is untenable. She has ultimately failed. She ran a terrible campaign and by the victory conditions that she set out she has lost. However, her vote percentage was still incredibly high - certainly more than most PMs ever get - so she might somehow be able to hang on.

It's incredible that the DUP are likely to be king makers. And their is an irony that May's government will be propped up by a party with strong historical links to terrorist organisations in Ireland after the attacks on Corbyn.

However there's one thing that's really going to feck them up - and that's EVEL. Those DUP MPs, along with the bakers dozen in Scotland, won't be able to vote on English laws. It is likely to make May's government unworkable in the main. I predict a Spring election.

Which brings us to the man himself. Corbyn. I'm staggered that he's managed to cut through the vicious media attacks and get his message across. Credit to the man. He's led an outstanding campaign that's got all the right messages across. He's galvanised the youth vote (73% turnout according to reports) and people have bought into his vision for the future. Sadly he didn't quite get enough thrust to form a government with the so-called coalition of chaos but this election has been a great success for him and the Labour Party.

Finally, let's all take a moment to laugh at UKIP. RIP to that shambles of a party.

I think this election has thrown up so many questions and has been quite extraordinary. The next few days will be fascinating.

"My view on the Earth is that it is a young earth. My view is it was formed about 4000BC"

"I am pretty repulsed by gay and lesbianism. I think it is wrong. I think that those people harm society"

"Would I trust them(Muslims) to go down the shops for me, yes I would"

"There can be no viler act apart from homosexuality and sodomy, than sexually abusing children"

"You don't bring a child up in a homosexual relationship. That child is far more likely to be abused and neglected"

Ladies and Gentlemen, the DUP.

Vote Corbyn, get DUPπŸ‘

Really interesting how smearing Corbyn is wrong, but smearing the DUP is verging on default mode for some.

I vote DUP and have two gay brothers, so like the DUP, I am not homophobic....a few folk may be, but that reflects society.
The DUP are called anti- woman on other threads, when the DUP are led by a woman, and a woman won south Belfast for the DUP yesterday.

I oppose some but not all abortion, which is used as a contraceptive by some, and it kills the unborn, well into pregnancy, but hey, ignore the rights of babies to sound progressive.

Labour lost, and the DUP can now get things done in NI for all of us, so stick that in your pipes.😁😁😁

I really don't know enough about them to comment. From what I gather they're a bit hardline religious types though at least.

I think it's not that it was ever acceptable to smear corbyn but it happened and now the smearers need a party with supposed (haven't researched myself) links to everything they held against him.

Glad you can be accepting of your brothers' rights to be happy, with each other but seriously what are the odds? Haven't seen that before.

In the old Paisley days there was more fundamentalism,,and I oppose that, and today the vast majority of DUP people are not fudamentalist, homophobic, sexist, racist or whatever else some PC social justice warriors chuck at them!
There are some bigots about, no doubt, but are we not all about having a conversation with people now, as jezza preaches?
I support the Irish language funding, equality for all he genders, races, faiths and sexual orientations....abortion for rape cases, danger to the mothers life etc.
Some older DUP folk may not be that open minded, and view marriage as what it was defined as in the bible and in society until recently......no problem with civil partnerships and attended my brothers five odd years ago.
Some haters are demonizing loyalists again, end of, and some claim they want to unite with us, whilst hating our existenceπŸ˜‰
