Summer goes on

Dare we even look ahead after last week's shocker? I've just about come to terms with what happened over van Dijk, so maybe it is time to look ahead...

Quite a few reports saying FSG need a big coup to revive this summer transfer window. This morning Mbappe has been linked and I saw another report saying we will confirm the Salah deal this week too.

To be honest, I'm more bothered about us strengthening at the back. A couple of attacking players would be nice but they shouldn't be top of the list. The only positive out of the van Dijk saga was that we've actually identified a defender as a primary target. The rest is, well, let's not go there (again).

So, who next? Apart from rumours at the end of the season I see no progress so far with any defenders linked. Still early days in the summer I know, but getting the business done as early as we can to ensure all the players have a good pre-season together will be important.

CB and LB still the main areas for improvement, then probably another winger like Mane to help stretch teams who come and sit back against us.

Hard to imagine that we are in for M'bappe when reports are saying that we wont even pay an extra £5m to get Salah.

I'll wait until the window closes before I start celebrating/complaining.

You say wait till the window closes but surely you'd want players available during the pre season so we should be looking to judge a lot earlier than that?

Window closes in September. We have a CL qualifier well before that to go with 2-3 PL games. Get players in for preseason training is the way forward and not this Arsene Wenger late trolly dash.

I won't knee jerk until the end of the transfer window, however we need signings early for the reasons Kash and can have stated

Plus we are so poor at signings and this was the case way before FSG came on the scene!

I just wish they'd bin the windows.

It would be quite drafty though

I'd prefer the deals to be done before the start of the season but if we get the right players in then I'll be happy come September.

Would be less painful for you when I throw you out of it for such awful jokes

Even better, the window should just be one week. Now that would be entertaining!

Kash I take your point but m' not overly worried about when we get the players, I'm only concerned that they are the right players.

If this current squad cant get through a CL qualifier and 2 league games, without new signings, then we have bigger issues IMO.

So relatively new owners who have shown a propensity to invest and a youthful dynamic manager is a combination you'd expect to result in significant but measured player acquisitions, hopefully partially influenced by the impact a lack of squad depth had on last season....

Despite all that, our almost pantomime approach to bringing players in the past makes me worry that despite what's changed the window will close with little to show for it..

Really hope I am wrong.
