FA Cup

The oldest most magical cup in the whole wide world. Or so it used to be but they are suggesting new rules. Now to be fair since Utd and Arsenal have started having to try and win domestic cups again they are now really important all of a sudden and stuff but in the face of that the FA are proposing new rules.

Firstly that replays will be scrapped

Secondly that it will be a midweek affair.

Don't mind the midweek stuff really but replays are the thing that make the FA Cup special in a way. It allows smaller clubs to massively kick on just by virtue of gaining a replay against the big boys.

Personally I'd rather scrap the league cup if we were going to do something but there ain't much silverware to play for as it is! We do play an enormous amount of football here though and I don't think it helps us internationally or in European competition. So if these proposals are not the answer what is?

Oh. Okay. But other than that then.

Brendan won it, so that's enough for me to consider it the greatest cup in the world!

I think having just 3 auto champions league spots, from 1-3 in the league and giving the CL qualifiers spot to the FA cup winners would dramatically increase how teams view the FA cup.

But then would UEFA allow that? Not sure, it is sad to see how the FA cup is often viewed as an afterthought to a lot of clubs/fans these days though. Something needs to be done to bring back some of that magic. Perhaps just scrapping the League cup altogether would allow clubs more rest so h could play stronger sides.

Uefa have been pretty clear that the cup won't get a CL place.

Sure even the EL place goes to the league rather than the runner up if the winner has already qualified.

I have my doubts over this tbh. Will Championship sides chasing promotion change the mentality that going up is most important? Will Premiership clubs in the bottom half see chasing one season in the CL as worthwhile compared to securing their PL place?

We have just had a season where the four semi finalists finished top 5, would these teams change how they approached the season if they were chasing top 3 instead of top 4? I don't think so, personally.

The FA Cup has a lot of "luck of the draw" about it, but ultimately it tends to be one of the top 6 clubs winning it in the end. Giving the 4th CL place to one of them could, if anything, diminish the integrity of the league rather than increase it in the FA Cup.

I think you just have to accept that the FA cup is fecked. It's a real shame. It just goes with the CL getting more and more prominence. The proposed changes would just be the end of it, or more likely of the League cup.

I love the FA cup, love watching it from the 1st round and enjoy seeing some giant shocks (except when we get booted out!) in the 3rd round onwards.

Scrapping replays is bad idea for starters, the lower league teams have some big pay days when drawn against Prem sides, more so if they play them away.

Also scrap the semi-finals at Wembley, put them back to 3pm Saturday, but MOST importantly, put the FA CUP FINAL BACK TO 3pm SATURDAY!!

They can also fack off with making the first tie FA Cup games midweek, only the replays should be midweek.

On a side note, maybe the League Cup should be for Prem teams that did not qualify for Europe and then Championship to League 2 teams, I know teams who qualified for Europe don't have to play in the 2nd round, but just make it so they don't have to play in the competition full stop. Do the winners of the league cup qualify still for Europe? If so, scrap that and give it to league position instead.
