Some background

It's funny how folk on here are quoting Apoel fans as evidence of Christiansens' calibre, when those same fans dismissed Cagliairi fans who warned of Cellino.

My take is that he's here now, he needs as much support as possible to succeed, I've no doubt all fans will give him that, despite us airing our concerns on the choice here.

Report in YEP yesterday said that Christiansen went through an in depth presentation on players and also matches.

This takes quite some time to prepare which would indicate that he had either been asked to prepare this or did it off his own bat, but either way had started work on it at least a week or so before.

One wonders if the timing of his exit from Apoel and Monk's exit from Leeds might be linked in some way, although if so, it did take rather a long time to bring to conclusion in terms of getting him to Leeds.

One also wonders if Christiansen might have had some say in Sacko transfer, who knows.

If he has done presentation off his own bat then kudos to Christiansen, I have done that before myself and I really respect people who go the extra mile pro-actively.

If AR has asked for this, then kudos to AR for wanting to see candidates thought process and philosophy.

I wasn't surprised to see an out of work foreign coach appointed, it's a cheap option, but now we have him in place, I look forward to the Jansson monies being paid and Jansson retained, I think a public bid for Bartley would show intent and one would hope that there is some decent money to spend after the 5 mill or so that would have been spent on Sacko and Jansson.

If we could spend 5 mill on 1 or 2 quality players, rather than 7mill on 6 non descriptive players that would be a positive.

Also looking forward to ER being purchased by the end of the summer, it will be interesting to see who is funding this and who will ultimately own it, one hopes it's the club.

I think we need some good signings to gloss this over. Just to get some fans onside

I'm unsure what to expect.

He has a 59% win ratio in Cyprus. With an unfancied team and the Cypriot behemoth that is apoel

He seems to be getting kudos for doing a PowerPoint presentation . I have blagged many a job with this technique.

From one blagger to the next. Good luck

I know what you mean, we're used to football managers who can't string a sentence together so the idea of a researched presentation for a job paying a few hundred grand a year seems otherworldly... as opposed to the bare minimum required in normal walks of life!

That's not to knock TC, far from it, it's great he did it.

What will be greater is if the club seek to fill the gaps in quality he's identified. Does his analysis of the playing staff and style of play dovetail with orta's who will be bringing in any players?

The next month 6 or 7 weeks will be telling in terms of backing. Whether they're TC's or orta's men? We'll probably only find out when the bitching starts when one of them gets sacked!

Anyone see Harry Redknapp do a Powerpoint presentation before? Or big Sam? They do their powerpoints on the pitch.
We could have got Pearson, Poyet, Heckinbottom, men who know this league. Instead, we got someone who knows Powerpoint. Since when did that become a qualification to manage LUFC?

Being good at FIFA is also a pre-requisite

If like has been suggested his interview process involved him identifying where and how he would improve the team then surely the board now know what he wants and how much they will need to spend.

Therefore the club don't have any excuse in sitting around and not getting players in sooner rather than later

"Therefore the club don't have any excuse in sitting around and not getting players in sooner rather than later"

Unless his presentation included how he could manage with what they already have.

good point jonny -

AR "Can your training and tactics make the current squad better"
TC "absolutely"
AR "fantastic last year we were 7th, better must mean at least 6th and the play-offs - you've got the job Tommy, now don't come begging for players"

If his presentation involved him saying he can manage without a leftback, only two centrebacks and the midfield options we have have and they believed him when he said it was fine.

Then both are idiots.

I doubt it very much though and he will. Have identified targets, he must have.

Club needs to now deliver and should know what he wants and thus get it done quick

Great points Matty.

If AR was sold in TC's analysis, then one could reasonably expect the analysis to be acted upon and the new manager supported.

I wonder if we'll ever hear what the analysis was.

You would imagine that monk and pep either independently or as a team would have identified areas they needed strengthening in. You would expect that orta has been watching a back catalogue talked to the coaching staff and have his own ideas.

You would equally expect TC to have done the same... from that Phil hay article it's clear that he did.

You would imagine rad would hope to see some consensus in their assessments ( a mix of those who have seen only the games and those who see them in training and know the backstory).

If i was rad, whatever new ideas the new manager has, I'd be hoping for some consensus on the areas that need strengthening, though clearly this depends to a degree on team setup and playing style.

You would hope that orta and TC in particular were identifying similar needs as those two really need to be on the same hymn sheet.

In an ideal world TC would have chance to see the whole squad in training before identifying targets but that leaves little time to get the targets in. Players are back in around a week, so hopefully they're working on targets now and can add/amend as he gets to know the players.
