Signing Lacazette is pointless

He is another average striker. We need someone world class and this guy is definitely not that. In the same category as Giroud, will score some goals but not going to take the club closer to winning the league.

As usual instead of spending an extra 10-20m to go for someone like Aubameyang we go for the cheaper option which ultimately will backfire.

Really hope this deal doesn't go through.

The slow starts that have afflicted us in the past are precisely because we sit too deep without the ability to get the ball out of our half with Giroud leading the line
=========
Yet it happened with Giroud sitting in the stands for half a season and Alexis starting up front.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It mostly didn't work against us which is why we were competing for the league whilst Alexis was striker to not being able to make the top 4 when he wasn't. Obviously the times when it hurt us, and you mentioned Burnley or Boro previously in other threads was when teams sat back and defended on mass. In those games Alexis started to hunt the ball after being frustrated by the lack of good possession in the opposing half rather than maintaining his position. Thats where his lack of experience as a striker hurt us in my opinion. Its why I wanted us to sign Suarez, Benzema, Higuain, Cavani, Icardi in the past as they were used to playing as striker and had the ability and discipline to come short or go long depending on what the opposition was doing.

After 17 games (the ones with Alexis starting up front) we were 9 points off the top already, just a point above Spurs who were 5th at the time.
We weren't competing for the league when Giroud made his first start, we were very much fighting for 4th.

Everyone has wanted a top class striker for years, that is not what we are discussing. Giroud as a squad player is a very good player to have.

The idea that the likes of Chuba Akpom and Stephy Mavididi should be on the bench and Giroud sold, as you suggested earlier, makes me sad.

Premier league position before Bournemouth game when Giroud was introduced.

1 Chelsea 19 16 1 2 +29 49
2 Liverpool 19 13 4 2 +25 43
3 Arsenal 19 12 4 3 +22 40
4 Tottenham Hotspur 19 11 6 2 +23 39

Fair enough. We were 3 points of second.

Girouds first start was against WBA in the 1-0 win (he scored the winner)
Then we beat Palace 2-0 (Giroud scored again)
Then was the 3-3 (Giroud scored and got 2 assists, but I guess the fact we drew was down to him and not the pathetic defending against Ryan Fraser).

The reason why I picked that game was its first time Alexis threw a strop towards Giroud.

And we will find out if they are good enough. If they are not Wenger needs to buy or produce better youngsters.

Easy as that, hey. Not sure why all clubs don't just produce better youngsters....

"I don't buy this. Cole and Sheringham infamously hated each other and that partnership was immense for man united. In most teams (successful or not) there will be players that don't get on."

---

You can dislike each other and still have a great working relationship, so long as you RESPECT each other as working professionals. Sheringham and Cole may have hated each other on a personal level, but they respected each other as footballers so were able to make the best of each others abilities and feed off each other. Forming a great partnership.

It wasn't either player dissing and putting down the other because he considered him not fit to grace the same pitch (a la Sanchez). If it had been then the great partnership you're citing would never have happened.

It's a fine line that I'm talking about Sanchez crossing here. I appreciate what you're all saying about a winning mentality and desire and passion. The point I'm making that you all seem to be missing is a player doesn't have to disrespect and denegrate his teammates to show all those things. You can yell at your MF for stuffing up, without disrespecting him.

It's not that Sanchez is yelling through frustration, it's what he's yelling and how. Eg

Pass to the wrong spot-

"Grrr, I said THERE!!!!" --- Yes

"Grrr, I said THERE YOU DOPEY God ya so crap it's unreal"

The great players in great teams who show passion desire etc, use the first method...mostly. That is why their teammates play with and FOR them, helping make them look even better. Even Ronaldo can't win you a dam thing stuck in a team who won't play for him.

So much nonsense on this article it's unbelievable.

"Sanchez is being mean to his team mates - Sell him."
"Giroud is too old to be a squad player - Sell him."

Meanwhile in the real world..
Barcelona accomodate Neymar, Suarez, Messi & Alcacer.
Madrid accomodate Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema & Morata.
Juventus accomodate Higuain, Dybala, Manzukic, Lemar & Pjaca.
Bayern accomodate Lewandowski, Muller, Koman, Ribery, Costa & Robben.

But... Arsenal can't accommodate Sanchez, Giroud, Welbeck & Walcott if we sign an actual striker? Get the fack out of here!

Alexis and Lacazette together would be deadly. Alexis would push him up another level.
