I Want A Top CB Too

I both highly rate and respect Kos but not the CB I want in a Semi-Final/Final or any PL title critical match. Though he's proven himself one of the world's most talented in his position, he has also proven (for Arsenal anyway) that he can't be relied upon in the most important of matches.

For whatever reason Kos saves his biggest errors for the critical moments in the biggest games. OG, Penalty giveaway, red carded. He's had the hat-trick more than once. Always when we need him most. I don't want him sold or anything like that, just to have competition for his place as good as him. If that doesn't fix his big game problem then we have an alternative of the same standard, who won't choke when it matters most.

We can't afford anymore Kos big game tanking moments, we've already lost enough due to this particular anomoly.

Bayern? An awful ref decision when the tie was long gone?

FA Cup semi? What did he do there?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Got sent off so had to miss the final, aka handicap the team. Footy fairy charm for Wenger nullified his previous round stupidity, luckliy. As for the poor decision vs Bayern, come off DJ it was a sucker's card. Yes we all know Lewandoski went down like a sack of tatas, but it was an idiot challenge to make. A player of Kos' experience should not have been suckered into making that challenge.

He did not get sent off in the FA Cup semi final

The penalty v Bayern was a bad ref decision. And not a big game.

Mustafi is far too rash when going for challenges, is not great in the air, and his positioning is questionable. Certainly room to improve, and I hope he does. For now he reminds me of Vermaelen, but possibly worse.

And sorry, but I'm not buying your examples regarding Koscielny. He was fine in the fa cup semi this year. The red vs Bayern is highly debatable, and even if we do count it, it's still only one example.

However, I agree that we need another top CB.

Koscielny and Mertesacker aren't getting any younger, and I have doubts over Mustafi.

Maybe I am being too harsh Tu Meke. It is certainly a luxury wish as opposed to a "We must do this" It isn't that I don't expect him to make any mistakes at all. I'd just like to see the mistakes outside really important games. I know there's been good performances in some instances but there's just as many where the game changing/losing mistake has been made.

All the other CBs seem to manage to largely keep their embarrassing howlers away from the most important games. They're generally not the games they pick to have the lapse in concentration. Whereas Kos seems to only make mistakes like that in those types of games. His uncanny knack for dropping a clanger in a clutch game is ridiculous. Maybe serious competition for his spot would be enough to give him the edge which would never see it happen in a "big" game again.

What clangers has LK dropped in big games?

The first two which jump to mind are this years FA Cup semi and the Champions league tie vs Bayern. Granted we got away with the FA cup by virtue of it being charmed for Wenger's number 7. But that's two the season just gone alone.

Tu Meke why the doubts on Mustafi? Just his approach to last season has set him well on the way to being one of my favourite players. I think he demonstrated the correct way to show competitive passion and how to tell of a teammate without poisoning the atmosphere in the process. Certainly can't argue with the team record with him in it ether. IMO he's captain material more so than any other player at the club. Another season like last and he's got my vote for sure.

Sorry my bad, was a league game wasn't it. The Bayern game was big. Just because the first tie went the way it did doesn't give players a pass on their errors in the second. Yes it was unlikely we would have comeback but as the game played out, it wasn't a certainty until Kos got himself sent off.

We currently have 3 CBs Im happy with, maybe 4 if Chambers can do it when he comes back (assuming we dont sell him)

posted on 24/6/17

Mustafi--LK---Nacho should be first choice in a 3.
Per, Gabriel, Holding and Chambers as back up.
Bielik and Sheaf coming through.

Don't think a CB is a priority this summer consider the other signings we are hopefully making.

I appreciate it's been his first season but I think Mustafi is far more error prone than Kos

I would argue Kos is a big game player. He's marked some great players out of games and scored some big goals for us too in terms of hitting top 4 and one in a FA Cup final I believe.

I think his issue is more against smaller teams where he's not as challenged, when he is he's not concentrating as much as gets a rush of blood to the head and can jump in rashly.

The Kos will be 32 soon so it can't hurt to look around. Be Vigil and look for a dyke of a man
