The lad has been capped by Spain youth and has a decent cv so it's not a doom and gloom signing. They all saw ability so let's see if he can shine here like Gradel and Wood did.

apart from if hes garbage nobody else takes him and we end up paying his wages for 3 years...

Kids should be on pay as you play contracts at such an age, if that was across the board clubs would save a lot of money in wages.

Not good when you look at it from point of view they are giving up college/uni/etc to pursue something that quite often comes to nothing, this lad still might not make it. So wouldn't happen on the pay as you play basis.

yup tough striking a balance between that problem and paying them 50k a week before they kicked a ball like chelsea do.

He wouldn't be getting a 3 year contract if we weren't sure he would make it, he's 20 now.

Somebody must have done some homework on him.

Yup it's a balancing act. At that age there are other clubs dangling grown up contracts in front of lads still on academy salaries. Sooner or later you have to p*ss or get off the pot and bite the bullet by offering a decent package to the ones you think are going to cut it.
