Sky Sports Subscription Shake-Up

Sky Sports is to scrap its numbered channels in a major shake-up with a new cheaper option for fans.

Sky Sports is getting rid of its numbered channels and replacing them with services named after specific sports.

It means the end for Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2, Sky Sports 3, Sky Sports 4 and Sky Sports 5. Instead, subscribers will be able to watch their favourite fixtures on channels dedicated to football, golf and cricket, along with the existing Formula 1 channel. Rugby, tennis and other content will be broadcast on a new “Sky Sports Arena" service.

The new format will make it easier for viewers to sign up for the services showing the sports they like most. So if you are only a football fan, you do not have to pay to for sports you would never watch.

Sky`s viewing figures have dropped in recent years, dropping to a 7 year low as some viewers have moved to cheaper subscription services, while the popularity of pirate streams could also have led to Sky’s declining figures.

As a Sky subscriber, this will suit me, hopefully I will be able to bin sports that I hardly ever watch, such as Golf, Formula One and Rugby, and keep my favourites such as Football and Cricket, and save a few quid.

So what will be shown on the 2 football channels?

Hi Billy,

Because I am a Liverpool supporter Sky contacted me with a "Liverpool loving media" (LLM package) deal and I am getting it for £5 per month plus a free penalty.

That's the first time you've made me laugh

Sky have the majority of prem games, lower leagues, league cup.

BT have all the CL games, some prem games, FA Cup shared with the BBC.

I prefer BT coverage to Sky but usually in a minority when it comes to that

Have to agree...

I prefer BT's presentation but for all the tactical business you can't beat Carra and Nev on their big screen

I`ll bet that the football channel(s) subscription is around double that of the others

Surely this is going to cost some punters more.

Does this mean that if you want to watch PL & CL footy you will have to subscribe to 2 channels.

Then for F1 you will need to add another.

What about the Rugby world cup, where will that be shown?

Hopefully this won't affect Virgin as I get everything I want for £15pm (on top of my normal package)

Sky don't have CL anyway.

Neither do Arsenal
