It seems Van Dijk has told Southampton again that he wants to leave. The club had scheduled fresh talks with him this week after they got back from the pre-season tour he was left out from, with the hope that he would have had a change of heart. But he has apparently reiterated his wish to leave. This is according to Southampton local press. He was also left out of the club photo shoot yesterday.
I can see this starting to gather pace now. They will want a resolution as soon as possible so they can get a replacement sorted and spend the money on whichever other targets they have.
If we get this signing over the line then I think it will have been a very good transfer window despite missing out on Keita, who we can go back in for next summer. Our squad would be shaping up nicely.

After last nights performance by the defenders, both Matip and Lovren played very well indeed, do we still need him? I've seen him have his shiiite games as well. Is Chamberlain still represented by Aidy Ward? Still want to sign him?

If we don't sign him then we would be pretty much reliant on Matip not getting injured all campaign. When he plays, Lovren seems to play well. But if we had to play Lovren alongside, say, Klavan for any length of time, I would be concerned. VVD would strengthen our first choice centre back pairing and also make us much less reliant on Matip, in my opinion.

Do we still need him? Yes. Absolutely.
One good performance against an out of sorts Bayern does not do anything to diminish the need that has been obvious for a couple of seasons now. A dominant CB is required, we concede far, far too many from balls into the box.
Lovren isn't dreadful but he's not top class. Matip needs to prove he can play a full season without injury. We need a CB.
Re-Coutinho. I am concerned now Neymar is leaving. Every player has his price and Barca have a huge pile of cash.
I still think the most likely outcome, despite the rarity of part exchange, is Veratti going the other way. PSG surely have to do something to make themselves FFP compliant and Barca want Veratti.
Also worth noting that it was Neymar that was in the press wanting Coutinho. Messi apparently has been making the case for Dybala.

Really hope we get this over the line as we do need a top centr back to come in, even when all fit VVD is a top player and having him makes us better.
