WHY should a player honour his contract?

In the wake of Neymar's transfer to PSG against Barcelona's wishes and the subsequent interview Neymar has given, in that he mentions if a player wishes to move then he should be allowed to, i was wondering is he right?

The more i think about it the more i tend to agree with him, of course if its YOUR club it affects then its a pzzr but nether the less, i think i agree!

There is 2 sides to this, a club is all for getting rid of a player quick smart if THEY deem him surplus to requirements, there is no "hang on, we will respect your contract fella", no its..bye then or dropped from the team. In fact we kinda have this with Moreno, he was bought doesnt fit and Klopp has him up for sale, he is STILL in contract yet will the club honour it? No chance.

So, when a player performs and shows his worth isnt he entitled to say, you know what i want out to earn more OR win more OR just go for a different reason? We all cry traitor and boo but truthfully if they want to further their career, its their life.

If couts really wants to leave, its more an indictment of our club that he sees better opportunities for silverware somewhere else, not his fault. Its an example thats all, the same can be said of Ronny when he left utd and numerous Arsenal players etc.

Truth is its the way of the football world, rarely does a player stay if he wants out, sure the club may keep for a period of time, but eventually they all leave:

Suarez, RVP, S Campbell, Mcmanaman, Ronaldo, Masch, Torres, Neymar, Fabregas, Pogba (left utd), VVD (left Celtic).

I am convinced players like VVD and Keita will leave, they are just following the trend no matter who you support, and you know what...i dont see anything wrong with it!

Unless you are Payet who breached his contract and refused to play or train. That matter should have gone to court

He should have been made to pay West Ham what they paid for him and have his playing licence suspended for the remainder of his contract

Quick to take the dough. Abysmal behaviour.

Nothing to stop a player doing the bare minimum though. Enough to get by, not enough to be picked.

It would have been interesting if it was Madrid that bought Neymar from Barca, they'd have had a real problem on their hands explaining Neymar's wages to Ronaldo

That is not true though.

If Moreno refused to move, Liverpool would have to honour his contract.

If Liverpool sell him they will probably have to pay him a big chunk of his contract too.

Meant to say,

And if a club refuses to sell then a player has to honour his contract.

It's the same for both sides.

A player who wants out downs tools and refuses to play.

A club who wants a player out can stick him in the reserves and treat him like an outcast.

The balance is about right at the moment I reckon.

Neymar didn't break his contract, he had a buy out clause in it.

He paid the money and was free to leave.

I would guess many players, certainly those at the top of their game would have a release clause or buyout clause.

If Barca refused to accept the payment then they would have been in breach
