DPL

Because of the time difference I thought I'd start the DPL. I'll go for 3-1 for the Rovers with Mandeville scoring - if he does not start, Rowe. With your cool weather of about 18C. I'll say about 7549 for the crowd.

Yesterday in "rainy" Portland it was 40C, and will be 35C or more over the weekend. The Portland Timbers tomorrow and the Portland Thorns on Sunday have moved kick-off to 11:00 instead of 15:00 because of the heat.

It is sad about our "Chelsea Boy", but who would have known about such an infection?

It was great to watch another whole game! I was a little concerned in the first half with sometimes too much tip-tap and playing backwards in our own half and still resulting in a big kick forward and not playing it forward. We gave away the ball several times but luckily recovered quickly before Blackburn could take advantage. Marquis’ first touch was poor on occasions – may be in League II he had more time before a defender was on him. Rowe and Andrew were somewhat quiet, but Wright and Butler were very solid. It all changed in the second half. While Marquis was somewhat gifted his goal in 44 seconds, but he took it very well, and from then on it was the Rovers best performance this season (except for standing still when the cross came and they scored!). Rowe was more upfront and Andrew was like he was against Gillingham. I found it very entertaining to watch, and look forward to many more 7:00AM kick-offs on the Left Coast.
Blackburn are supposed to be favorites to bounce back – if that is so and we can keep playing like the second half, we have a good chance of the play-offs.
I’ll see the next two Saturday games but then will be in Europe (mainly on a Danube cruise) until late September to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary (my lovely girl friend, Pauline, now my wife, used to come and stand with me on the Rossie End in the mid-1960s) but I do not think she will want me to watch games on my iPhone while on the boat. Luckily, one game is blocked because it is on Sky.
A very encouraging start to the season, but how did the Millers manage to score 5? (We do have friends who a Millers fans).
As always, RTID

Late review of second half had to dash back to N.Yorks for evening meal.
Great confident finish by marquis.
The general view re pen by fans stood around us that it wasn't a pen we were stood with a good view but last week we were deniged 1 at home.
Well.put away by 26 who had a REALLY GOOD game apart from those silly flicks on 3 occasions giving the ball away.
Mandy was probably the only player that wasn't on song.
Blair quiet first have but good positive second half.
Hard to pick mom they all did so well couldn't argue with any choice even mason played well in not his best position.
We appeard to have more width second half which i think opened them up.
May did well again and could have had a pen but we were never going to get 2.
Wright solid and professional.
Butler becoming a legend 1 fantastic brave block
Rowe andrew whiteman all good.
Lawlor commanding 1 great save.
The goal should do marquis good he obviously enjoyed it
Feel sorry for the boo boys really im sure masons time will come again.
Tremendous support.
Great day.
We were 2 divisions apart last season so its a big step for us.

Only viewed the highlights but it looked very positive for us. Which isn't always the case with TV highlights! Should boost confidence all round , including Marquis. Big fan of Wright. Only got chance to see him once last year but he seems even better this year. Re penalty. It looked a tackle from behind which I believe is a foul in the rule book even though the defender took the ball.

My recurring criticism of last season was that the passing was poor. Not so yesterday judging by the extended highlights. And they kept up the pace with much the better of the play featured on the highlights.

The slightly bad news was that Blackburn, for all their expensive personnel, looked rather lifeless with hardly any memorable moments apart from their goal, so in a sense we should have expected to beat them anyway. Southend beat them on day 1 which seemed a good result for them this time last week, but their appalling display against Rotherham when they hardly put in a defensive tackle made me wonder.

But in another comparison, the Bantams beat the Gills - away, which gives a more encouraging comparator.

Offering a little criticism and I believe fairly.
Sometimes 1 pass 2 many leads to us getting caught in possession just beyond the half way line.

Spot on Lanza, one pass to many. Same as in front of goal, making wrong judgements, ie May Marquis Rowe Mandeville v Bradford all shot instead of squaring for another player to put into empty net. Or shooting when 20yrds from goal, luckily these things will get sorted out in next few games, then get ready. Onwards n upwards boys.
