Jürgen Kloppenger

For years we have had a giggle how Wenger used to drive the Arsenal fans mad when it comes to transfer business but now it seems we are getting a dose of our own medicine. The comparisons are very similar:

* Jan Transfer window - Outright refuse to buy anyone as there is no value in the market despite numerous injuries and fixtures

* Warchest - Owners let it out that the manager has a £150/200m warchest for the summer. Like Jürgen Klopp would say "boom".

* Early deal - Get a deal done quick for a player to keep the fans happy while being linked to numerous other players.

* Long target - Spend months trying to buy a player but in the end give up while suggesting someone like Milner could do a job in midfield.

* Cheap deals - get a few cheap deals in with players who will play in the league cup

* Preseason cup - Win a preseason cup and go into denial thinking the squad actually is not that bad.

* Friendly win - Beat some big CL club in a friendly to add to the denial

* Yoof - Now that plan A targets are not acquired and not willing to take risks on Plan B then claim that we have some youth players who would step up.

* Envy - Moan about other teams spending too much

* Moan - during season will moan about fixtures and where is this mid season break.

PS: This is only a comparison when it comes to transfer business and not management

You see I don't have a problem signing people like Klavan.

He was £4-5m which is nothing these days.

What we most avoid is wastes like Carroll, Benteke, Markovic, even if we ultimately make money back on those sorts of failures.

They are the big money buys that are meant to be first team regulars for years. We have to get those ones right.

The £15m (in the new market) and under signings can be afforded a higher failure rate because it's not a lot of money and they aren't bought to be fantastic first team players.

The biggest problem the transfer window is clubs aren't willing to sell as they don't need the money any more.

£50m for sigi? 2 years ago Swansea would have bit thier hand off for that. Now it's a lot more drawn out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
United, City and Chelsea don't seem to have that problem. Want a player, buy the player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So United got Fabinho? Did they get Greizmann? Perisic?

Chelsea missed out on Lukaku and can't seem to get Alex Sandro over the line.

City missed out on VVD.

Ridiculous.

To be fair, it's a real possibility that if Markovic
and Sakho go we could actually end this summer making a profit again, how disappointing would that be.

All depends on VVD for me, if we can get that one over the line we are a much much stronger side.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would that be disappointing?

If klopp is satisfied with his signings and that he's strengthened the squad enough to win trophies and we happen to make a profit then explain to me how that's a bad thing?

Think you need to read what the united poster Lurker said above

They might not have got some of there Plan A but they made sure they were not left found wanting and moved quickly on to plan B.

Exactly.

I was excited about a potential big spend this summer as I want us to buy quality and that usually costs more (not always but often).

I'm not desolate that it looks like it might not be a big spend though.

I'd rather sign nobody than sign players Klopp doesn't really want. He clearly really wants Keita and VVD, and the club are trying to get them (they deserve criticism for messing up VVD initially).

We have a very good team and players that will improve our first 11 are not as easy to find as the more irrational part of our fan base think they are.

The same Chelsea who got rid of Lukaku, KDB and Salah?

And the transfer committee decided that did they?

Cos the manager was quite bemused by it

I think Matic is a good signing but you can't compare him to those 3 who Chelsea let go at a very young age.

Matic is a very experienced player they have allowed to leave. The last one was Mata, and to be fair Chelsea have largely been proven right on that, as while Mata has done well at times for Utd he has never not near the form he showed for Chelsea initially.

Neo, if I read you correctly, you assimilate profit with disappointment. So, if we go into debt, spunk the proverbial money up the wall, the new signings don't turn out to be Messi Renaldo Suarez in disguise you are happy with that?

I can see where you're coming from.

I'm happy our club hasn't spent £2-300M this summer as City appear to be doing.

What if?

What if they turn out to be dross as well? At least it won't be the first time City have been taken to the cleaners. Again.

I hope you and me are as one when it comes to where we want our club to be, back home. How we get there is a different route.
