Back on the VVD transfer, what are the realistic options Saints have?
We all know saints will not hold onto vvd, he has thrown in a transfer request and its not what you would call a nice one, if there is such a way of doing a nice one.
The suggestion "he can rot in the reserves" is pie in the sky, the implications of this are too damaging to the club. It will be a toxic atmosphere around the club and in all likelihood vvd still has friends in the team, he was their captain and the club risk a fractured team; those for vvd and those against.
So the club can publicly announce what they like, but in reality saints cannot/will not damage their season to prove a point with VVD...it could cost them their premier league status, they only finished 6 points abov the 40 points mark which is considered a survival mark; 6 points away, not much is it!
They don't want to sell to Liverpool, probably a matter of pride now but VVD has made it 100% clear he wants to play for Liverpool and no one else, so its at an impasse.
I suspect saints will begrudgingly sell to Liverpool but the cost will be massive, the timing of the deal may also be as inconvenient as possible. I expect a deadline deal in the order of £70M, after all keeping VVD might "teach all a lesson" but the lesson could easily backfire and cost saint a premier league place!
Realistically...what are saints going to do

Ppd.....no, its just to liverpool. As i said in the article saints can posture all they want but ultimately they know a bad egg is better of away.
Saints wont risk vvd unsettling their whole club just to take the moral high ground, they WILL want too...but they simply cant. Saints could unravel very quickly from this.
Liverpool just sit tight wait for the days to pass until negotiations start, and they will start 100%.

Firstly, Southampton are not going to unravel from this. They are a well run club, great academy and have a comfortable mid-table team (with or without VVD). That comment is just stupid.
I agree VVD will leave them though. It's incredibly rare that clubs let an asset 'rot in reserves'. It's never been tested (as far as I'm aware) but there's a school of thought that if any club did that then there's a possibility it would be restraint of trade and the player could potentially have the contract ripped up. Although the length of time it would take probably makes court action impractical.
Anyway, he'll most likely leave. Whether he leaves for Liverpool is much, much more debatable. Southampton could just accept bids from Chelsea or City and reject ours even if it's of equal or greater value. Petty, maybe, but a possibility.
If you think in that scenario VVD would stay at Soton with his bridges burnt rather than move to Chelsea or City then you're mad.

People will accuse Liverpool of double standards. Saying a player isn't for sale, then perusing one Southampton have stated isn't for sale.
It will just get worse.

Double standards in football? Sure not!
Liverpool should be thrown out of the league for double standards and made to study the bastions of morality that are all other clubs. A partition should be started.
More pressingly though, have you got a friend who can keep on eye on you for a couple of days if Coutinho doesn't go? Just to make sure you don't do anything silly.
