Cardiff v Villa

Fell much more cheerful after that win on Wednesday. Looking for another one. Cardiff are physical under Warnock but they're not very good. I'll chance my arm and say we'll win this one as well.

Think the team will probably be the same as last Saturday, except somebody in for Bacuna. Happy with that; think it's a team with potential which should improve.

Thoughts?

Team: Johnstone, Hutton, Chester, Terry, Taylor, Elmohamady, Whelan, Onomah, Lansbury, Agbonlahor, Hogan.

Bench: Steer, Hourihane, Bree, Samba, Adomah, Bjarnason, O'Hare

Same as last week except Onomah for Bacuna. Maybe we should have had Davis or RHM on the bench.

You're right, Cardiff just aren't very good

We were poor against Hull (despite claims we dominated) and naff again today. I just cannot understand how Bruce has got four promotions from this division - yes, Villa have been in terminal decline for years but it's not as if he hasn't got most of his own players now. Yet most of our best players are Di Matteo signings (Kodjia, Jedinak, Chester) or players to come through the academy (Grealish, Green). Lansbury, Hourihane and Hogan have gone from being some the best players in this division to some of the worst.

He is a dinosaur playing 4-4-2 and needs to get with the times. When everyone is fit we should have two holding (Jedinak, Whelan), three attacking midfielders (Grealish, Green, Adomah) and one striker (Kodjia). Even now we should play it with Hogan and then Green, Onomah and Adomah behind. But we desperately need a midfielder who can get double figures and a 20-goal a season striker while Kodjia is out. And if we don't we could be in the relegation zone by early next month.

Just how can he get teams like Hull, Wigan and Birmingham up & struggle here. He has pretty much his own squad yet constantly chops and changes and doesn't play the best team. It's just ridiculous and absolutely taking the **** now. If he can't handle this job then he can just sod off like all the other managers who failed.

Yep, I got it wrong

Cardiff were pretty good Very quick at closing down, and some very sharp attackers. They deserved the win.

You can argue as much as you like about how we played overall, but for me the critical thing is the stats; Cardiff 15 shots, 12 on target, us 10 shots and 1 on target. That 10 shots isn't bad away from home, but only 1 on target is very, very poor.

Don't think 4-4-2 is the problem because he's not really playing it; Gabby is out wide. The problem is that after a full pre-season and yet more comings and goings we still have a hugely unbalanced side. We only have Gabby and Hogan as senior strikers, not too far off our horrible run in January.

We need a good striker in quick. Kodjia may be out for longer than we think; I don't think we'll get much out of him this year. Hogan has yet to show any form for us; we might get the odd goal out of Gabby but don't count on it.

Bruce is still there but the clock is starting to tick. If he can't pull this round quickly (I'd like him to, but as yet there's no sign that he can) he'll be gone.
