Premier League Sabbatical

I've never felt so underwhelmed and apathetic about the start of a new season.

Not sure why exactly but probably a combination of all the over-hyping of the Premier League, obviously imbalanced / bias coverage and over-saturation of live football on the various platforms.

I'm also fed up with the restricted availability of top flight match tickets.

Looks like I've fallen a bit out of love with the game.

While I don't think this will be permanent, I've decided to undertake a trial separation and will be giving most of the TV coverage a miss for a few months.

I'll be checking results as usual and reading the printed & posted media (pre and post match), but I'm done with MoTD, Sky & BT. Not sure just yet if I'll jettison the radio stuff yet but might give it a go.

So there you have it. Feels weird but what can I say?

Will I rediscover the love after 3 months?

Come back here in mid-November to find out.

Cheers guys, thanks for your support.

My instinct tells me something ain't right with this Premier League.

Arsenal 4-3 Leicester
Watford 3-3 Liverpool
Chelsea 2-3 Burnley
Palace 0-3 Huddersfield

I certainly wouldn't call it underwhelming

Dear me, this is pathetic.

Football went over a precipice with Neymar, probably unrecoverably so.
It's how clubs are matching aspirations and stated intent with suitable and timely investment is what is key. The likes of Man U and Man C have laid down a marker with a convincing reinvestment in players, for Man U the game against an admittedly poor West Ham demonstrating a decent return.

I think we'd all be feeling a lot happier, confident and energised if we saw intent matched by new players in our own club.

The business ethics and sustainability of the game is a debate that will continue, probably without a definitive answer for a few more years.

Would you have written this if you hadn't conceded a late equaliser? I doubt it.

How so?

Don't you sense that the Premier League is on a downward spiral?

Look at the farce of this current transfer window & the role of agents.

As pointed out above, the Neymar saga is a case in point.

Enjoy it if you want but the way things are going, the bubble's going to burst soon.

Unsustainable.

You miss the point. Deliberately?

I'm not referring to results here.

On Swansea v Soton, Paul Clement commented:

The former Chelsea coach believes the transfer window, which runs until the end of August, should close sooner.

"With no Sigurdsson for us and no Virgil Van Dijk, you can make the case that fans, team-mates, coaches, viewers around the world, are being short-changed," Clement said.

"What would be a better situation is if the window closed before the start of the season.

"Then clubs would know their group for the first game, and who is and who isn't available.

"I don't really understand why it isn't the case and, in my opinion, it should be changed."
