Fabinho Enrique Tavares: Done Deal

Mel Morris has upset Derby County fans by taking the bold move of swapping 3 of Derby’s top earners: Jacob Butterfield, Craig Bryson and Bradley Johnson for 1 solitary midfielder, Fabinho from tin pot Ligue 1 side Monaco.

Facing criticism from fans for the deal which sees no money change hands Mel Morris had this to say:

“He can play at Right Back too and Gary felt that the team needs more versatility and we believe Fabinho gives us this. We need to be mindful of FFP and with Jacob, Bradley and Craig now leaving the club we have room to pay for Fabinho’s considerably lower wages and possibly a bit more wiggle room in the market."

Mel Morris refused to be drawn into speculation that Wigan talisman David Perkins is being lined up to soften the blow of losing three midfielders.

For me it’s a brave move, possibly even a gamble, but the money we save in wages makes me lean towards supporting this.
