Drinkwater to Chelsea?

Looks like our good friends over in West London are looking to buy our ol' Academy player, Danny Drinkwater. Leicester wants £40m for him and it is very possible that they're going to pay something close to that amount. Two things.

1. Chelsea fans, feel free to ask us about the former academy player that we developed and was actually successful . We could give you some good info on what your club's alleged £40m is going into.

2. What does everyone think about the price tag they're about to pay for a former PL winner? Comparing players in similar price ranges, you could've gone for someone like Paulinho, who we all know is a Cockspur reject. The weirdest thing, though, is the potential value, where:

Drinkwater = Bakayoko = Matic.

Fun Fact: If this move goes through for around the asking price, Drinkwater becomes the 2nd most expensive former academy player in club's history.

Drinkwater ffs. Remember when 40 million for Modric was ludicrous?

Stupid signing.I prefer Albrighton and Jamie Vardy as compared to Drinkwater.

@The Devil's Advocate's Advocate

Yeah he was good with Kante two years ago. Could be still good now. I just don't get why your board or Conte would loan out all these players when your squad is bare thin and then go out and spend £30m+ on an average midfielder. Or keep Matic?

It's like me going out and donating my 3 course meal to the homeless and then turn around and spend £30 worth of McDonalds.

But yeah, inflation sucks.

@Sideshow

#1 wasn't a question. It's an invitation for open discussion.

Good info on your loaned out players. Still confused to why you would loan out all these players and only have 22 first team players.

Your management team knows that you're in more competition this year right?

Our youngsters aren't good enough at this point to occupy squad space, Drinkwater would be. The only one out at the moment whose proven is Zouma who doesn't suit Conte's back three.

Matic I'll grant you. In hindsight probably should've waited until we got another CM before selling him, but I can see why we did cash-in in principle. 40mil for an OK player at his age would've been too tempting to reject, PL rival or not.

Devil's Advocate Matic is not an OK player as he is at least above average and selling him to a rival was an even bigger mistake.How many players have Chelsea signed from Man U in last 14 years?Answer is zero.We are becoming a feeder club of Man U.

Haven't youngsters to occupy squad space is better than having no one at all. I'd rather have your two best players who went out on loan + Danny versus just Danny only. It just seems all strange to me and I'll probably never understand it fully.

Was Matic going to be your starter even with Bakayoko there? I'd imagine it's Kante and Matic as your holding mids?

If we sign Drinkwater it's four players for two positions, the other three being Kante, Bakayoko & Fabregas. No need for bulk any further.

Matic never really fitted into our system last season, was there mainly because Fabregas was even less suited to it. He would've been 3rd choice if he stayed. He'll do well for United this season but he's probably go two good years left tops.

The four former Chelsea man they have - Mata, Matic, Lukaku & Mourinho - all left on our terms.

We have signed one player from them in the last 14 years. Mikel. Best piece of business United have ever done
