Alonso

Now one match winning performance isn't enough to change alot of fans views on him. But what a signing he's been up to now, steadily improved and one of the players to have developed and improved under conte. I feel alot of people's views come from the fact he's not your typical modern full back, hes not small and compact, not rapid and doesnt so much rampage as glide up and down the wing. But what he does posses is great size and strength, good Ariel ability, composure on the ball and a world class left foot along with more than a few goals. Are most of us happy to sign a back up rather than replacement and give him another season to kick on ?

Wanting Alonso to be replaced is entirely understandable.
Usually one of the weaknesses in big matches, but yesterday was an anomaly where he was outstanding.
Even matches in which we dominate possession, speed of thought and recovery pace is lacking.

Dread to think what would have happened had Spurs had pacey right wing-back to run at and behind Alonso.
Trippier had no effect on Alonso, as he was very tentative.

Alonso free-kicks are magnificent, I'll give him that.

you don't have to think. go back to last season where we beat spurs 2 out of 3 times.

In the home and away league matches against Spurs last season, shown to be a weakness defending Walker last season.
FA Cup semi and yesterday's match Trippier didn't offer close to the same attacking threat as Walker.

I agree with you he is a sloth but strengths outweigh weaknesses for me.

A lot of people wanted baines a few years ago, well alonso is similar to him except bigger and better in the air.

Good delivery, good defensively nowadays, gets up and down and great at set plays.

Alonso is absolute class, rock solid and he scored goals on top of that. There aren't many players in the world I'd swap him for. One of the last players we need to replace

Alex Sandro would be an upgrade but Alonso is class.
