Looking at season's gone by in the Championship, I was wondering about the goal tallies for sides that got top 2 and what we might need to get now that Wood has departed.
In the 2015/16 season Middlesborough got automatics scoring 63 and only conceding 31.
Remarkably their top scorer in the league Nugent got 8 goals, Rhodes 6, Stuani 7 and Adomah 6 with a host of other chipping in with 3 and 4.
They are probably the most extreme example of sharing goals around and got top 2 via a watertight defence.
Looking at our squad assuming we were to concede 40-45 which would be achievable, the targets we might need from our squad:

Alioski 8-10
Striker 2 (Douk replacement) 7 goals
Ekuban 5 goals
Roofe 5 goals
Hernandez 5 goals
Dallas 5 goals
Phillips 5 goals

Vierra 2 goals
Cooper 2 goals
Total 72 goals
I appreciate it's a bit of a theoretical numbers game but it shows that you can get promoted without having guys getting 20-25 goals, but we would have to defend well and chip in throughout the squad. Some players may get more, some a lot less but there is hope.

Think my Alioksi prediction might be a bit optimistic but could see him winning us a lot of penalties for other players to score.

if wood plays no one else scores. at least that's what happened last year with the defence out scoring the mid-field. spreading around the goals lessens the chance of slumps due to injuries. i think with the new players and the young players maturing we'll do alright for goals.

These last couple of games Wood wasn't on his own scoring, I think we'll see more goals from outside the strikers than we have seen for a long time!..
Alioksi, looking at that free kick he took, looks like he's got some sting on him, so there should be a few goals coming from them as well, plus any no doubt he'll get like that!..

Amazing that a team can get autos with their top goal scorer on 8, though I do agree that's a bit of an anomaly.
The usual trend is that anyone near the top has a striker they can bank on scoring 20+ a season.
