So he's gone from back injury to illness. That's bullcrap. So if he is fit and not going to Barcelona why not play him?

Because he's handed in a transfer request and isn't in the right frame of mind to play whilst it's all going on, like what happens with all players subject of a bid from another club he wishes to join? It's not something new here.

They say we learn from the past but some people are just stupid regardless of their experiences.

Officially he is. We all know that what the official statement is and what the reality is are two different things in football. As it stands, both sides save even more media interrogation by using the injured/ill line. If indeed it isn't true.

Why would us qualifying for the CL have any impact on whether we, as fans, want a player to stay?

They are making a mistake keeping him prisoner at HMP Klanfield, they won`t have the same player as his head is now at Barcelona.

Refuse to let him leave and they will have no huge wad of cash and an under performing player.

They should take the money and bid £100m for Mark Noble and Jesse Lingard imo.
