Why do you want to keep a player who clearly doesn't want to play for you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

27 years makes you desperate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same reason you kept Ronaldo an extra year, sane reason we kept Suarez an extra year.....

Why? Barca are poor in the transfer market. They've signed Paulinho ffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep you're right. They've become one of the best in the world by being poor in the transfer market.

And we should definitely judge the club by the purchase of one player.

They have hits, they have missed. Same as every club but surely they're acknowledged as knowing an attacking talent when they see one?!

You're usually a more intelligent poster than this so I'm assuming this is a wum.

It's not just one transfer. That's the clearest exanple to show how badly Barca are getting in the transfer market. The list is even longer. Suarez and Neymar are the only good signings they've really made in the last few years.

Just because Barca sign a player doesn't discount the notion that said player is overrated/not that good. Not even arguing that Coutinho is, arguing the point that Barca signing you disqualifies it. That's a stupid argument.

barca said they were hoping to "present" another player.

whatever that means.

I agree with the above btw. they have made some brow raising signings in recent years that you'd thank why have they done that???

however we all know dembele at his age is a big risk for them at the price. coutinho would suit them down to the ground.

actually its one more for sure and possibly two out of them so i presume they are up to something.

It doesn't discount it but it less likely. They can pursue any player they like with a fair chance of success. Does that mean he's amazing, top 5 in the world etc etc? Of course not. But it does show very clearly that they believe him capable of playing at the highest level because that's the level Barca operate at.

He could still be overrated of course and they might be wrong but it at least helps validate the opinion that Liverpool fans have long had - he's a special talent.

As for them not signing anyone good for a few years, really? Discounting Neymar and Suarez which we're doing for some reason, they've also added Rakitic, Ter Stegen, Alba - all first team regulars. And now Dembele and Semedo as well.

Sure they've had some misses - Gomez and Turan to name a couple of high profile ones - but everyone makes errors in the transfer market. Absolutely everyone.

Forgot Rakitic. Didn't go that far back to include Alba as their transfer policy back then isn't the same as now.

Alcacer, Deulofeu, Denis Suarez, Douglous, I'm sure there's a couple of others. Barca's transfer policy the last few years has been poor which is why they've found themselves with a squad well behind Madrid's.

Glad you agree them signing him doesn't mean he can't be overrated.

He's a quality player, of course. But I don't need Barca signing him to tell me that. Just as them signing Paulinho won't convince me he's good when I know he's shiiiiit.

As great as Cout is (and there'll be no revisionist posts from me - he's an amazing player),

.......................

He is a good player, not a great one.

Your opinion VC, I think he's a great player.

In terms of technique he's great. And in terms of consistency he's improved every season.

And in terms of raw skill, Sadio's goal yesterday was just as impressive as anything Couts has done, not taking anything away from the boy.

And free kicks? T A-A isn't without skill in that department.
