Our dreadful defence

Has 7 clean sheets in the last 9 premiership games so why are we scrutinized more than other teams who have conceded way more than us?

Spurs who have apparently the best defence in the world have only got 4 clean sheets in the same time.

If we get VVD this week will he help our dreadful defence or do you think we struggle because of our style?

I don’t think our defence is as bad as it’s made out to be.
Carragher made a good point at the weekend....we actually have a good defensive record against the top-half teams, so we can defend, but somehow lose concentration against the lower-half teams.

I checked the record from last season, and it’s true. We conceded 6 against Bournemouth over 2 games. Two goals in games against Palace, Sunderland, West Ham, Burnley.

If you take away those goals, most of the remaining goals we conceded were in games we won anyway. Conceding 42 goals is not brilliant, but it’s not atrocious, either, considering we are quite an attacking team. Only four clubs conceded fewer.

Some cheap goals from set-pieces (which you’d think would be easy to fix), but I think we’re gradually getting stronger, defensively.

Corners and set pieces seem to be a key area for us flapping. Apparently we only use 4 players for zonal marking and the rest are man marking. I think this confuses a lot of players.

Doea anyone else think that if we get VVD that Lovren will play alongside him? I just can't understand why we agreed to pay him £100k per week to sit on the bench.

My answer to your question T Bone, lies with one man -Lovren. He does have some shocking errors in his locker, but for me he's not the only one. Matip at times can be equally casual, but never generates criticism.

With Gomez making his mark, with Alberto apparently re-born, T A-A knocking on the door, things are deffo looking up. Lovren appears to be the favourite choice of whipping boy when things go wrong.

You are absolutely right with 7 and 9. Perhaps it's a problem our manager should have sorted out by now, but hasn't.

I think he has been the whipping boy as he has made the most amount of mistakes that have led to goals. I actually think that he brings the players around him down as well. Matip is a great defender but he has been left exposed at times.

i think our style does not help us as our wing backs are like wingers. They get that far forward that they can't get back in time if we lose the ball which leaves the centre backs exposed.

Think your best bet is attack is the best form of defence. Arsenal didn't really make an attempt of attacking at the weekend.

But everyone keeps saying it's Mig that unsettles the defence. I guess it depends which way the winds blowing

I don't blame Migs. He does flap at times but I think that is a confidence thing.

I always look at the midfield first. Who is covering the defence? are they giving them enough support? As a team we defend from the front but I think there is always big gaps between defence and attack due to players bombing forward under Klopps instruction.

Do you think he inspire confidence in the defenders in front of him? I don't.
