So re coutinho

I hope the club have not been paying his massive wages which he happily took only few months ago.

Clubs have to pay their players. They can issue fines, but even then there are limits. Clubs cannot just stop paying players under contract. They will be in breach of contract and the players will be able to walk away for free.

It's possible that Coutinho is doing nothing more than what we've asked him to do.
It’s quite common for players to be 'sidelined' while there’s transfer speculation around them.

By arrangement with the management, because it’s considered distracting, and disruptive to the squad.

Keeping him for another year is sufficient punishment. Will be even better punishment if Barca just buy someone else and then won't need Coutinho.

Fining a player for not playing while injured would be a bad precedent to start. Although maybe it's time we try it with Sturridge.

I should imagine that if the player is faking an injury and basically going on strike - the club are well within their rights to not pay.

If they'd told him to be 'injured' then fair enough.

In the absence of a straight refusal to play, there is little clubs can do when a player pulls a sicky.

He quoted, by 'friends' in the bollockpress, that he will refuse to play in Champions League games. That would amount to a breach, implied or express, of contract and the club could withhold his wages.

I think the quote is rubbish, made up, just like the overwhelming majority of quotes attributed to him.

We have done couts a favour, i fully expect us to beat barca if we meet them. I expect us to go far in the CL and title race.

Keep the faith Grizzly. Having just watched the latest Barca v. Real game when pretty boy gets sent off and gives the ref a shove in the process, I couldn't help but think that Barca, with Messi definitely not getting any younger, Luis, our Luis' speed not there as before, I wouldn't dismiss GB's comments out of hand.

But, having thought about it, we're probably knackered now.
