"Over the odds" is a subjective statement, Arouna, especially in a bull market like this.

He cost around the same as Sigurdsson, time will tell which of them was "over the odds".
Spurs paid 8m for Gylfi, and that turned out to be over the odds, so who knows?

As for paying less and developing a younger player, that takes a bit longer, so if the requirement was short-term, that's not the option you'd go for.
