Our Transfer window

I thought I'd capture my thoughts regarding the recent transfer window regarding our club

The positives :

- Klopp + Champions league = Quality players who want to join Liverpool
- Salah joining and giving us both another attacking dimension, preventing a repeat of last season lack of attacking pace should Mane suffer an injury
- Coutinho looks to be staying, since his "medical recovery" and having played for Brazil he will need to knuckle down to be ready for next year's world cup. Sulking won't get him anywhere.
- Keita joining Liverpool next year ( wish it could of been this year !)
- Left back positions seem a lot more stable with Robertson joining and Moreno's transformation so far back to that player we signed from Seville.
- Chamberlain added to squad to give more depth in CM and options elsewhere if there are injuries.
- Solanke joined and looks a very promising player who can give us something different, this has allowed Origi to go out on loan hopefully improve by playing regular and his loan fee repays about 55% of his original transfer fee ( Likely to go towards the Solanke tribunal agreed fee)
- Henderson looks injury free and he, Can and Wjinaldum are all playing well.
- Milner freed up from LB to provide extra squad depth in midfield or other positions.
- Alexander Arnold has really kicked on and will challenge Clyne for the RB position.

Negatives:

- Lack of bringing in a quality centre back (VVD or another) whilst selling one (Sakho) could cost us big time. Should anything happen to Matip and Lovren like last year then I think we have a real problem with just Klaven and Gomez to play there.
- No specialist DM to replace Lucas, this one will likely impact more in the Champions League to the Premiership games against the better opposition.

Good article , I think we should have hung too Lucas as cover . Injuries at centre back will be a real issue between now and Jan , though I am ok with waiting til Jan to get Virgil as it's clear he will be our player soon .

Not sure what the back up to klavan and Gomez is but would have been happier if we'd spent some money on another CB , lad at Swansea or Ben Gibson would have been ok as cover if matip or louvre are out

You are a keeper, 2 centra backs, a full back and a decent combative central midfielder short.

Klavan is ok, qnd gomez I think can cover sufficiently but I get your point, 1 other top cb would be ideal

Fullbacks we are fine and I think migs is bordering on being good enough if he continues to improve. I do believe vvd and keita will be the last pieces of the puzzle for a real consistent title push.

It sends a strong signal that we have a core group of quality players that klopp believes in . The squad depth is decent and the areas we recognise are fragile will he filled over the next 12 months . Only query I have is keeper . Karius needs to grow up a bit if he's going to prove himself and mignolet has this season to prove he can be relied upon .

I’m quite happy with it

VVD would have been nice, especially for our weakness at set-pieces (why didn’t we get him from Celtic? ), but I don’t think our defence is as much of an issue as is being made out, I think it's improving.

TAA and Robertson look very promising, so the full-back positions are looking well covered, and I think one or two of them can play at CB as cover anyway (I think Gomez regards it as his natural position).

We got good cover in for the forward positions, and we’ll need that because with a high-pressing game and CL commitments, we’ll need to rotate.

Breaking down the ‘park-the-bus’ teams was the issue last year...can we resolve it? I got the impression at the back-end of last season that Klopp was developing a plan for that....playing Sturridge as an extra forward, for his ability to create space from tight corners, and then playing Coutinho a bit deeper, again for more creativity in approach play.

We’re getting by, against those kinds of teams at the moment, and maybe that’s all we need to do, so we’ll see. Obviously, keeping Coutinho enables us to retain that option, but I wouldn’t have minded him going if we could have got a creative replacement....he’s obviously very good, but I don’t think he’s irreplaceable.

So all in all, I think we did ok.
I don’t understand the problem with gk, I think Mignolet has been playing well, and Karius looks like he can be ok too if he can stop giving us a heart-attack from his kicking. It’s rare that you get all your targets, but I think the key thing was to have enough rotation to be able to sustain a high-pressing game with more fixtures.

Klopp must feel he achieved that, otherwise he wouldn ‘t have loaned out Origi.

Yeah actually a bit disappointed with karius. Not his first time in England and he was voted one of the bundesliga best, yet to show it.

Hopefully he will come goo but it's taking time!

In summary I'm happy with what has been achieved, I think we are generally stronger squad wise than we have been for some time. We will certainly score plenty of goals whether it is quite enough in central defense I guess we will find out over the season. I'm looking forward to the season with a sense of optimism.
