DPL Northampton Town

Not much time today and really not much to say either because I don't have a great deal of knowledge about the opposition apart from their new manager appointment. He has had success at this level, but we have to hope their will be no instant miracle. So 1-0 with Marquis the man and 5500 there.

I expect it was Dickov Hound. Somehow I don't feel quite the same about the current regime as I did at that time.

DF does seem to go on either good runs of results or bad ones.

Something has to be done about the defending. For their goal, 2 Northampton forwards combined against 4 defenders, only one of which actually engaged with an attacker, the man who brought the ball down the wing. The 3 others ran back in formation, one looking to the opposite wing for potential danger, but none turning their head back to track the goal-scorer; so, none was close enough to actually tackle him. They failed to recognise the obvious danger. On other occasions they allowed themselves to be over-run by the speed, bustle and harrying from the opposing forwards, just like happened at Wimbledon. Frequently we are present in numbers and just allow space for attacking moves to develop.

These seem fundamental errors, a disregard of the basics of defending.

In a good defence you would expect to be able to name several players who can tackle well consistently and I would like to know if anyone can pick out 3 or 4 that can do so dependably in the Rovers defence.

Yet, based on the extended highlights, we looked most likely to score and there seemed to be some good fortune going Northampton’s way. But perhaps if we had scored one or more, the defensive flaws would be overlooked.

We all imagine that no more really bad defending will overturn our predictions and only BVZ bet against the team and thereby got 3 points for the defeat. Mooligan top scored with 5 for the crowd.

So this is how we got on:
Northampton 1-2 Loss Att. 5843

Apologies to Azza for getting his cumulative score wrong last time; it was 8, not 5.

I wasnt at the game and have only seen the sky brief highlights.
However i have spoken to a pal who went and he says that the lad who scored ran past Kongolo who then failed to go with him.
If that is the case it is hard to blame one of the defenders in this case.

Donaldo.
We haven't scored in last 3 leauge games.
If you dont score u dont win many games it also puts pressure on the defence

Conceding in the manner we did after 25 seconds is no excuse for the way they played for the next 89 minutes and 35 seconds.

To suggest that going behind at whatever point in a match is a valid reason for losing especially against a side that has not won for 6 months is undeservedly sympathetic and lacking in objectivity.

Ferguson is not defending them!

By all accounts we didnt play badly for 90 minutes, in fact we battered them in the last 30.

Fergie wont defend them but the fault lies at his door.
He always blames the players.
He is the manager and it is always the managers fault if things go wrong on the pitch. (Isn't it?).

It was when Dickof was with us.
Conceding after 21 seconds appears rather unprofessional lack of concentration perhaps.
But still didn't score again
