DPL vs Rochdale

It is tempting to say that Rovers seem capable of losing to any team from Armthorpe Welfare upwards, but that would be irrational.

I've actually seen 90 minutes of Rochdale and they did not look like a team that would be viewing League 1 from its base. Despite playing away they were lively and competitive, eager to get the ball up the field and whilst they did were not in any way classy they did seem capable of giving any League 1 opposition a good game. They showed that bustling pressuring that we have not yet found a way of dealing with. However they lost last time out at home to the quality that Blackburn were able to put out. There seems to be little doubt that Blackburn have got better since our win there and we have slipped backwards certainly confidence-wise.

There will be changes according to DF, but as well as some personnel, perhaps most importantly it will be mindset. He does not seem to acknowledge explicitly the repeated failure to cope with physical hassling, but he does recognise what I saw in Rochdale, their sheer energy. He has not seen opposition that in his opinion has been superior, but whilst better quality footballing skills against us may have not been obvious, superiority equates ultimately to winning.

Northampton looked poor, yet we lost. Rochdale will be stronger and playing a bit better won’t be enough, so I fear we will lose. So 1-3 with May the scorer and 3,100 to see it.

Goalkeeper's mistakes are usually irreparable I know, but it does not make their actions beyond criticism and in my view (unpopular as it may be) he failed to make any meaningful attempt to save either goal.

No keeper in the world could have saved the first one.

Now here are the scores for the Rochdale match. Marquis was a popular scorer, but no one thought the number of spectators could be so small not even within 500. 3 pessimists forecasted a loss and BVZ even got the score right - well done - 6 points and top scorer. Mooligan remains top of the pile overall.

Don, i was wondering what you thought about the Sanchez goal against Cologne.
The keeper didn't dive.
Do you think it was saveable?

Marosi at Grimsby
Lawlor at Rochdale.
2 mom performances by our keepers

Yes Hound there is similarity. In both instances the goalkeeper moved initially but realised that he wasn't going to get anywhere near the ball, so just watched. In the case of the Sanchez goal it was difficult for the goalkeeper to know which side of him the shot would come. Thus there was more chance of him getting it wrong as he did.

In the case of the first Rochdale goal Lawlor seemed to begin to jump and then abandoned his effort. He also had the chance to move back to his line. For the second goal, he watched the ball headed conveniently across the goal by a Rovers defender (?Butler) without making any attempt to gather it and then put his hand in the air as though appealing for off-side. I don't dispute that he may have been MoM, but it does not absolve him of any criticism. It was altogether a bad goal to concede and obviously not just his fault.

Don, on the first goal at Rochdale, The ball was hit with height and pace.
The height prevented him from reaching the ball and the pace of the shot prevented him from being able to move backwards quickly enough to save it.
Had it been gently lobbed then I could see your point.
