is jota our best ever ?

a good indicator of just how good jota is is that some of the older respected, by me anyway, posters on molmix are saying that he is the best wolves player they've ever seen. one actually said that he was better than his previous best ever, peter broadbent and peter knowles.
it's my opinion also that broadbent and knowles are the most skilled wolves players i've seen, whether jota is as good or better i'm not well placed to give an opinion as i just dont see enough live games.

what's your opinion?

Out of that 20% I would guess he is and will prove to be better than the majority, time will tell.

solly
ted farmer - scored 44 in 57 games for wolves, all in the top division including 2 in his debut away at manu.
also

steve bull - scored 306 in 537

so on numbers bully is our greatest striker - BUT on ability as a player, and i am lucky enough to have seen them both, would you argue against me that ted farmer is our greatest ever striker ?

I was fortunate to play in the same team as Ted Farmer for a number of years. He was a character, and was no quiet wall-flower.

An example why judging 'greatness' needs the context of length of service/number of games...

Derek Dougan scores hat-trick on home debut
Darren Roberts scores hat-trick on debut

DR helped stuff the blouse and it was a great day...but he's not up for the hall of fame just yet.

many ,many players i saw once in the flesh - gerd muller. franz beckenbauer.stefan effenberg, eusebio for a start - that i knew immediately was a great player.
not just famous players though. dj will probably remember playing last nights opponents in the 80s and seeing a then teenage nigel martyn in goal or playing watford in the fa youth cup and seeing john barnes for the first time giving one of the greatest oneman performances ive ever seen in demolishing a good wolves team on his own.

perhaps my judgment is at a higher level than yours.

i was at that blues darren roberts game. loved his goals but never thought that here was a great player

but I bet you have also seen loads of players in yr life that you thought were going to be great who then never really made it wolfgang? human nature to remember the successes that support a theory and forget other examples.

a few seasons back a lot of wolves fans were saying how sylvain ebanks-blake was going to become a great player, or more recently benik afobe and sako. as good as all three were for wolves, none have managed to progress when they stepped up a league.

none of this is to say that I don't think jota is performing brilliantly, or that I don't see the potential to be a great player in him. but some of the over the top comments so far have been the equivalent of football fans' premature ejaculation, jota has been hear so short a time.
