Championship Watch

Well, well, well.

As expected, the Scottish Premiership is a snorefest. Celtic lead, Aberdeen 2nd, Rangers 3rd, St Johnstone 4th. Predictable.

The usual suspects down at the bottom too.

Not sure why anyone bothers with that league when we have the super incredible and exciting Championship on our doorstep!

Don't take my word for it - go the BBC website and find the tables page. Start typing 'Scottish' and what's the first league that pops up - the Scottish Championship. Even the BBC know that it's the best and most exciting league in Scotland.

Three points separate the top 5, with Dunfermline now topping the table after a handsome win against the Paisley Pretenders. St Mirren were found out by the Fifers and it's pretty clear that the Pars are - as your humble correspondent has pointed out a few times - a force to be reckoned with and real contenders in this league. A 3-0 humbling has put the Buddies back in their box.

Just in behind the league leaders are Greenock Morton and Dundee United, with the latter far from their best but still within spitting distance of the leaders. Nevertheless, United manager Ray McKinnon is under serious pressure and it would not take much for the fans to demand his removal.

Queen of the South, that biblically-named team, are also in about the top spots and putting pressure on the leaders.

And if that's not enough excitement compared to the snorefest in the league above - and I know what you're now thinking, HOW CAN THIS GET MORE EXCITING IVAN YOU MANIAC - then let me tell you something mind-boggling for you unadventurous types from the top division. Two of the title favourites, Falkirk and ICT, are in real trouble. Falkirk are very much in bother, sitting in the relegation play-off place, with ICT just a place above them. Indeed, if Brechin pick up a win next weekend they could both be in the relegation spots.

What drama. What excitement. What a contrast to the tedium of the league above.

I'm pretty sure BT and Sky are reconsidering their television deals and battering down the doors of Neil Doncaster and his batch of bumbling buffoons and begging to now show the greatest league in Scotland. And who could blame them?

Feel free to post your excited observations about the best league in Scotland below. That's assuming YOUR MIND HASN'T BEEN BLOWN BY THE EXCITEMENT YET .

SPL is where it's at

Scottish Championship comes up when you type Scottish because the top flight doesn't have the word Scottish in it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I know what you're trying to do.

You're trying to set me off on a 'SPL doesn't exist rant'.

And we both know the top flight is called the Scottish Premiership

I personally love the early rounds of the Scottish Cup just because of the fantastic team names that are involved.

Me too

You get to hear about teams that you didn't know existed or were still going

Edinburgh City - who knew there were other teams aside from Hearts and Hibs after the demise of Meadowbank Thistle and their reincarnation as Livingston without trying to take Meadowbanks illustrious history

Forres Mechanics - I used to wonder if they were a works team

Cumbernauld Colts - another team from the Glasgow area you'd never know

Cove Rangers - another team from Aberdeen you'd never know

Dundee Utd - another team from Dundee you'd never know

Renfrew Juniors - The mighty 'frew with one of the best youth academies in the country

I'm going to ignore that cheap jibe.

I was always fascinated by Burnt Island Shipyard. When I was wee I always imagined this blackened island, scarred by fire, with a team full of scary looking men who were hard as nails (not in a homoerotic way).

Sadly that's not the case.

Back to the OP though, and it seems that the powers that be have indeed been coming to realise that the Championship is the place to be.

BT Sports announce that they will be giving their viewers a festive gift by showing LIVE the Championship game between St Mirren and Dundee United.

No surprises there - no fixture over the festive period will have more importance.

The Championship is the salvation of Scottish football this season.

Nobody will be watching it.. once the OF game has finished everyone will be on the blooter instead.

Nice of BT to waste their money like that
