I seen this article on the BBC of a guy travelling the UK taking pictures of goalposts.
It sounds daft but looking at some of his shots there really is an essence of nostalgia creeping out.
I often find myself pointing out pitches and goals to my kids telling them how I used to kick about there or play there and I can see them looking at me like "why would you play on that overgrown mess with rusty goalposts?"
But the fact is it evokes memories. Anytime I drive past the Racecourse in Paisley as I drive over the fly over I am quite saddened as I remember it being choc-a-bloc of football games. I think there were about 26 pitches, some absolute bog heaps and some good surfaces.
It's great that kids learn to play on a good astroturf pitch these days and learn the basics well but for me the most fun I had was around goals like those photographed in this collection

I've made it a tinyurl as the BBC link was huge

My brother coaches a kids team and now thinks he's Jose Mourinho because he's done a couple of coaching badges. So when you watch a game with him he seems to think he needs to give you a detailed account of the tactical nuances of the game, which are plain as day to everyone that's watching. It makes watching the games less fun.

I come up against so many of these types of coaches who think they are Pep Guardiola and want to play tika taka football.
Many of them are form clubs with reputations for being good so parents take their kids there anyway and the team will naturally be good.
I want my teams to win, I won't deny that but I enjoy training far more than games as a coach because that is where you see the improvement.
Beating teams by 10+ goals every game and posting it on Facebook is only for the coaches ego.
I have nothing against coaches posting their team on Facebook but don't pick and choose. I've made that mistake myself

Call sign
To be fair his team is terrific and they've worked hard with them to get them to improve, I just don't him trying to pretend he knows the intricacies of every game because he coaches kids at 7 a side

It's the guys at games who feel the need to tell every player what to do, every second of the game.
"Run with it"
"Use Sinclair"
"Play the 1-2"
"If Tierney pushes further up we can exploit that space"
Etc
Had one in front of me last season.
Shut the Fvck up ya fat pie!
Before he blew another tonne of vape smoke in my face
