Costner's acting is wooden
................
It really isn't.
------------
Agree to disagree then.
................
The bridge ambush scene is really poorly done.
...............
It really isn't apart from the Charles Martin Smith bit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That bit alone ruins it. It's so cheesy and unrealistic. There's no sense of tension with the heroic music playing and Charles Martin turning into a plucky little tough guy. May as well be one of these daytime TV movies.
The scene with the baseball bat was well done, cause that was tense. Music kind of spoils it when it kicks in though.

Anyone here seen Blow Out? Utterly superb and one of the best endings ever

I cant remember that scene,Spurtle2.
Though I really dont want to watch it again.
The film does nothing for me and I have 0 interest in re-watching it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a montage part in the film where they show how much money they're making while some very 80's incongruous song is playing. Doesn't go with it at all, IMO.

As was the scene at the Chicago Train Station, although he did steal that from another movie. It was still very well done though.

That was kind of cheesy too.
Stolen from Battleship Potemkin.

Tarantino
Mallick
Burton
Boyle
Miyazaki
Kubrick
Scorsese
If pushed for one, I'd have to say Scorsese.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Early Malick or later,if you were to have a preference ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think his most important films have been The Thin Red Line - my favourite movie and I think the very best I've seen, period - and Badlands, another masterpiece.
So earlier Mallick, I suppose.

Nope,especially the remake of Scarface.
I deslike Scarface for all the reasons people like it.
Think it's ridiculous and naff, also I've never been able to like the style, though unique,in which his (Palma) films are shot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a bit to be fair, enjoy it, but it doesn't compete against the likes of goodfellas
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, it doesn't match up with the likes of Goodfellas or Once Upon a Time in America, but it is interesting, quite powerful, stylistically fun, and undoubtedly iconic.
It is very sorely let down by its editing though, which was an horrendous hack-job IMO. It just wasn't stitched together at all well, with scene transitions poorly delivered and a very bumpy narrative.

Another top film I though was hell or high water with Jeff bridges.
Total mood piece with quality script cinematography and acting.
Not sure who directed it off the top of my head but loved every minute of it.
