League Cup, yea or nay?

I get that it has its pros, but imo the cons of the League Cup outweigh its potential benefits.

Out of Europe's 5 big leagues, only England and France still have a League Cup every season. I don't know the case in every country, but Spain only held a League Cup for a few seasons back in the early 80s. It was soon considered a totally redundant, pointless competition.

As it stands now, the Bundesliga is already 4 games shorter than the PL. Does it really make sense for the PL to hand German sides an additional advantage in the CL by forcing its own teams to play an extra domestic cup?

Personallly, I'd have had it scrapped years ago, but then again, I'm not an English footy fan.

What do you think? Reasons below.

And just to gauge the overall sentiment, vote 5 to keep the LC, 1 to scrap it.

Cheers.

It depends whether you look at it as an absolute or as a comparative.

They might be able to play 10 or 20 games more than they do, but that little bit extra sharpness can make a crucial difference if you're up against a fresher Bayern Munich or Real Madrid side at the business end of the Champions League.

The league cup holds the least value but its great to win anyway. Even has a 2 leg semi-final to make it feel special.

If we won it then fine, if we didn't then I won't lose too much sleep over it as long as we've not got far in it. Wouldn't be against it being scrapped - as well as FA cup replays too. I'm not ashamed to admit that I couldn't give a fack about the smaller clubs and how this affects them and their finances

I don't really see the point of it. Why do there need to be 2 national cup competitions? Do we have 2 parallel league systems with the same teams? Two European Cups with the same teams?

Keep the FA Cup and restrict the league cup to only the EFL members and maybe some lower league teams to make up the numbers. They tend to take it more seriously anyway as opposed to PL teams who treat it as a place to rest first-teamers/blood in youngsters. And it gives the EFL teams a greater chance of silverware as opposed to some giant like Utd or Chelsea hoovering up a competition that means very little to them, finance or history-wise.

It's a good question

Especially when asked by someone who can tell us the benefits of not having it.

The positives I can see from it, is the players getting a boost.

I played in a league where there was a supplementary cup, similar to the CL: the dropouts landed in the Europa League:

But it was district FA Cuo so minnows could've opposed the big dogs in the first round.

The supp cup was a morale booster for lower leagues and we won it one season. Trophy and everything. Pile of sht broke when it got knocked off a window ledge whilst being used as an ashtray.

The morale of the team was awaesone though. Regardless of the trophy.

That was a pool team

I think the only game which clashes is the final isn't it? maybe 2nd leg of the semi? Because it starts so early in the season it doesn't really disrupt things too much IMO which is why it's weird that teams don't go for it, especially those who aren't going to be challenging for anything else.

Keep it for me, first trophy of the year, if you win it you already have a good season.

Chelsea gave starts to a few who don't normally get them. Batshuayi hat trick will do great for his and the teams confidence in him. Loads of examples of this,Alli at Spurs getting on the scoresheet,Everton a good win too. The tournament is the least important but has its purpose and is meaningful.
There is already a tournament without prem clubs called the Efl cup.
