Saw this on sky sports so not sure how reliable it is but
These are the top capacities for British stadiums
Old Trafford 74,994
Celtic park 60,832
London stadium 60,000
Emirates stadium 59,867
Etihad stadium 55,017
Anfield 53,394
I knew Celtic park was big but never knew it was that big, do they get sell outs often?
Another question, I heard (from a rival fan) that we are unable to extend our capacity? Is this true? As teams around us build there new stadiums or improve their current ones, shouldn't we be aiming to do the same?

+++
84,500 City vs Stoke at Maine Road

This was the FA Cup
The League Record is a United home game, although it was at Maine Road.

What exactly is the issue with the rail line? Surely we could just fund a slight route change?

Tbh I'd be all for moving the stadium a little (or a lot) nearer to the M6

Okay this is a bit off topic but I thought I get it out there.
Why on Earth do they pulled to challenged (physically and mentally) people in the front of the stand? Isn't it more dangerous with the football flying everywhere? I noticed that for the Bournemouth game last Friday

Must have really strained yourself coming up with that gem.
Thread is regarding stadium capacity - not mental capacity.

The cost, railway line and housing south of the South Stand have all been discussed as key stumbling blocks to the expansion.
Housing I don't believe should be too much of an issue, as there would be space for expansion and a concourse without touching the gardens of the properties, and light wouldn't be an issue; the only objections could really be to litter and noise.
The railway line we'd have to build over, with the station redeveloped. Apparently this is feasible.
The biggest issue would be the bottom line. I've seen figures upwards of £200m quoted, which even with the all the additional revenue that the expansion would bring (ticket sales, corporate, increased megastore revenue, hospitality, advertising and sponsorship, etc.) considered, would add a very burdensome amount to the interest payments on our debt. Again, I've seen £18m per year quoted as an estimate, which could eat up all of the benefits delivered by the expansion, leaving it essentially a vanity project.
The PLC funded previous stadium enhancements by whacking ticket prices up, and this might be an option for the Glazers if their strategic plan sees them hold on to United for upwards of the next five to ten years. We've seen ticket prices frozen for years, and the debt cut this year again quite significantly. Maybe they have been preparing for a revised ticket-price funded expansion?
