The Team That Dared To Do.

Football isn't about winning trophies, it's about the unforgettable moments that create the stories handed down through generations. Never has that been truer than at Tottenham in 1994/95. In The Team That Dared To Do manager Gerry Francis reveals, for the first time, the diary entries he made in the months after being forced out of QPR and taking on one of the toughest jobs in English football at White Hart Lane. With outspoken chairman Alan Sugar fighting a points deduction and FA Cup ban in the courts, Francis replaced the sacked Ossie Ardiles. In a series of exclusive interviews conducted by BBC sports journalist Chris Slegg we hear from former players including Jurgen Klinsmann, Teddy Sheringham, Darren Anderton, and Sol Campbell about what life was like in the dressing room and on the training ground. From the magic of Klinsmania and Ardiles' audacious attempt to make a success of his 'Famous Five' forward line, to some magnificent performances under Francis, it was a season that had it all.

One for the Christmas stockings I'm sure!
Anyone got any unforgettable stories from this season that you plan to hand down through the generations?

I know this is a wum article but I actually agree with the premise. Football isn't about trophies, it's about moments

Share a bit your sentiments to be honest. A naive attidute I know....if these moments leads to some trophies makes it perfect.

What's your favourite moment Gunner?

There were some...

Surely the win over Hull in the FA Cup final was special. Unforgotten the League Cup game against Reading where we were 4-0 down. I know it was only a League Cup game but this one was special....

My favourite ever Spurs moment was not a trophy win, but Gaza’s famous free kick at Wembley vs Arsenal in the 91 semi. The goal itself, who it was, against them lot who were virtually unbeatable that season, first semi at Wembley, the fact we were in dire straights as a club financially...all that made that goal so very special

The old "football isnt about trophies" line dug out again.

Like any competitive event, it is not just about winning trophies but about being the best you can and doing the best you can. Being at the pinnacle of your game and winning trophies/prizes is the ultimate dream of just about everyone who participates in just about anything.

Whether its a kid starting out trying to win the local U8 cup, an adult trying to get as high in the pub league as possible, a pub pool team entering the local cup, entering a prize draw or lottery, or a professional PL player, we all want to win the trophy or prize. If you enter it to be lesser placed you are not as likely to put in the dedication and time to be your best and achieve the top.

This is exactly the sort of attitude that kept Totteringham in our shadow for so long and an attitude that now seems to be entering our club. Players who want to win things leave us for a club that aspires to be the best and we saw that with Henry when he went, RVP and now Alexis. At a time when our greatest achievement, the Invincibles, is no more than a distant memory I feel like our club does not strive to be the best it can be, and that is what hurts.

Wouldn't watching your team come back from a couple of goals down to win it in injury time mean more emotionally than a dull FA Cup final with a 1-0 win...is the euphoria of seeing a guy wearing your shirt lift a trophy, higher?

Dunno - it's a weird one. Cos I do want my team to win trophies but I'm not utterly obsessed like others
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I do agree with you Mr Flibble. The time when the club you love exceeds your expectations is the beautiful game.

My favourite match will always be 4-2 v Liverpool 97.

Best moment of 94/95 was the FA cup quarter final win at Anfield. Sheringham's curler into the top corner and Klinsmann's late dink over the keeper

It's not fashionable so much but I have never enjoyed football like I enjoyed Arsenal in 07/08. People always talk about how great United were that year but we were comfortably better up until Eduardo. People forget how big losing Rosicky was too.

We went to the San Siro and beat AC Milan, champions of Europe, in a game where they played excellently, but we were better. We were the best side in Europe for a brief, but glorious few months.
